Mayor Donald R. Grebien, the city of Pawtucket, the Pawtucket City Council, and the Pawtucket School Department have announced that they will be accepting applications for the Mayor’s Scholarship Program from June 1 to July 1. The scholarship was established to help assist Pawtucket youth with college tuition costs and was funded through a grant that was provided by the Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation and Revity Energy LLC. RWU University College April Student Spotlight!

Today, I had the chance to meet with Keith Nunes, who will be graduating in May with a bachelor’s degree in our social sciences program and I wanted him to tell me about his time at RWU-UC. He mentioned his favorite courses were those in non-profit management especially grant writing and cultural awareness with Professor Donnell. He loves how the professors here are active in the fields that they teach and he found all his classes extremely informative.

When I asked him what advice he had for adults looking to get back into the classroom, Keith said; “Research is definitely the key, especially when trying to find an institution that is going to have what you are passionate about. You know going into it that it’s going to be challenging but when you know what you are passionate about, it will make it all that much easier. Look for schools like RWU-UC that are accessible and flexible and have professors who know that you have other obligations as adults.”

Keith also shared his future plans for himself after graduation this May. He has been accepted into the Masters of Divinity program at Boston University and he wants to specialize in running or directing a non-profit, possibly delivering education to justice impacted individuals. He is also leaving room for further discovery and fine tuning his passions.
