🌟 Alumni Spotlight: Jan Cornell '07 is a new Student Success Coach at JWU! While she’s new to the faculty, Jan is no stranger to the University. 📚✨ Her JWU journey is truly inspiring. After a challenging start in foster care, Jan came to Rhode Island for a fresh start. While visiting Providence Place mall, a Miss RI USA pageant recruiter invited her to join the pageant with the chance to win a scholarship to JWU as the prize. Eager to secure college funds, Jan took the leap—and won! “I have to win this,” she said.

Jan’s college years became the best four years of her life. Despite lacking typical support systems, her professors were her true champions. Now, she’s thrilled to give back and help current students navigate their own challenges. “It feels surreal to be back at the University because this is definitely home to me.” 💛💙

Welcome back, Jan! We’re excited to celebrate your journey and successes!

⭐ Faculty Spotlight: Kudos to Mark Soliday, JWU Associate Instructor of Pastry Arts and owner of Confectionery Designs - Wedding Cakes & Bakery in Rehoboth, MA, for crafting the wedding cake for Christian McCaffrey and Rhode Island native Olivia Culpo! 🎂🍰 Mark and his wife, Marie, were recently featured in The Providence Journal. Their five-star hotel experience has established them as Newport’s go-to cake makers, where wedding costs are a third of NYC prices. 💍

⭐️Alumni Spotlight: We’re shining a light on Jeanne Michon '94, who is making a significant impact in her community through her organization, New Beginnings Inc, in Woonsocket, RI.

New Beginnings serves freshly cooked lunches four days a week, and community members who visit say that no one is ever turned away. Jeanne's dedication goes beyond just serving meals; she’s creating a vital support system for those in need.

In Woonsocket, where 28% of the population relies on federal food assistance, Jeanne's work is a crucial piece in addressing food insecurity. Her selfless approach is deeply admired: "We're not doing our job for the money we get." Jeanne’s mission to combat food insecurity is truly inspiring! 🍽️

Jeanne was also the first person in her family to graduate from college. Scholarships play a vital role in opening doors for future students, and you too can make a difference by supporting scholarships and helping others achieve their dreams. ❤️💪 giving.jwu.edu
