July is Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) Mental Health Month. Today’s list focuses on the unique strengths and challenges that Black, Indigenous, and people of color face when it comes to mental health. Zee Clarke’s “Black People Breathe” is a practical guide featuring thirty-three mindfulness exercises centered on healing for the Black community, each focusing on the systemic challenges that people of color face.

Location 1 - Behind the Downtown Library at 1044 Middlefield Road - 10 a.m. to Noon
Location 2 - In the Parking Lot of Redwood Shores Library at 399 Marine Pkwy - 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Wanted Items: Books, CDs, DVDs in Very Good Condition. Puzzles (if complete), Videogames, and Albums accepted as well.
Do Not Bring: Anything Dirty or more than slightly Worn. No Magazines, Encyclopedias, VHS or Cassette Tapes, Hard Back Adult Fiction if older than 3 years.
Please bring items in bags or boxes that you will leave. Every donor will be required to load the bags or boxes onto carts. Thank you!
If you have a small donation (1 bag), you can bring the materials to only the Downtown Library's donation bin near the lobby during operating hours.
Drop in at the Downtown Makerspace for hands on Summer STEAM at the Library Mondays 3:30-5:30. Each week explore a different area of STEAM. For grades 3-8.
Next week: Earth Science! Join a master gardener to learn how to improve your soil with compost. See a worm bin in action, where kitchen food scraps are transformed into rich compost. Meet the red wigglies and other tiny critters that do all the work!

The Redwood Shores Branch Library Playground Project aims to develop an accessible play area reflective of the natural surroundings and community values. This project will enhance the community experience and offer play opportunities for those at the library, using the trail system, and enjoying the nature of Belmont Slough.

National Disability Independence Day is July 26! This week’s list honors children with disabilities. Check out books such as Tiffany Hammond’s “A Day with No Words.” Young children will learn what life can look like for an autistic child who uses nonverbal communication by following a mother and child on a day where they use a tablet to communicate with others.
