Ready, set, learn! Our Adult Summer Learning Challenge has officially kicked off! It's easy to earn free books and be entered to win even more prizes in our prize drawing. Here's how to participate:

1. Do 5 of any of these things: read or listen to books, attend library events, and/or learn Makerspace tools
2. Pick up a Summer Challenge log from the Friends Bookstore (or any library) and fill it out
3. Drop off completed Challenge logs at the Friends Bookstore and choose a free book from the designated book shelf

You can complete as many logs as you want until the Challenge ends on August 31st.

Reading and Rocking with Joe Cepeda and Andy Z

Join Joe Cepeda, award-winning illustrator and author, and local children’s musician, Andy Z, for a morning of books and music. Mr. Cepeda is the illustrator of award-winning picture books such as “What a Truly Cool World”, “Nappy Hair”, “Mice and Beans” and “The Swing”, which he wrote as well as illustrated. Mr. Cepeda has illustrated books written by numerous notable authors including Gary Soto, Pam Muñoz Ryan, Monica Brown and Toni Morrison.

Stop by the downtown library bookstore to see the array of bracelets you can choose from. Don't see what you were looking for? Not a problem because custom requests are accepted as well!

Bracelets will be sold in all 3 library locations.

These bracelets are generously made by a high school senior as part of their senior project.

Summer Learning Challenge!
Registration opened on June 1 for children, teens, and adults!
See our Summer Newsletter for all the wonderful details on the summer learning challenge and all the programs funded by Friends!

The learning challenge encourages kids and teens to read during the non-school months. That is only the beginning of its benefits. The program includes a wide variety of fun entertainment, Makerspace programs, storytimes in our libraries and Redwood City parks, book clubs, and so much more! Does your child love LEGO, sewing, drawing, magic, bubbles? There are programs centered on all these things!


The newsletter also has an article on the Library Bees and explains why there is a library honey shortage at the moment.

The Friends of the Redwood City Public Library is a 100% volunteer-based
organization that sells pre-owned books and media to fund Redwood City
Library programs like the Summer Learning Challenge, music programs,
author programs, storytimes, crafts, and much more.

We are looking for friendly and reliable volunteers to staff our Bookstore at
the Downtown Library, 1044 Middlefield Road. At the Bookstore, Friends
sells donated books and media.

As a volunteer you will be chatting with customers and handling payment for
purchases. Volunteers must be able to make change for cash purchases.
[There is a calculator in the store if needed.]

At this time, Friends is looking for
1) volunteers who can commit to a 2-hour per week shift and/or
2) volunteers who will be on our substitute list for volunteers who cannot
make their Bookstore shifts. Substitutes will be emailed weekly with a
list of upcoming shifts that are open.

The Bookstore is a room next to the Library’s lobby which opens to the lobby
and has an air purifier and ventilation.
