VCU Business is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Brown, Ph.D., marketing professor, as interim dean.

Dr. Brown is an accomplished scholar, educator and community leader with expertise in brand strategy, B2B marketing and marketing management. His research has appeared in leading academic journals and he has been recognized for his excellence receiving the VCU School of Business’ Award of Excellence in 2019, the Teaching Excellence Award in 2014 and more recently was named a 2022-2023 Provost Faculty Fellow.

VCU Business faculty member, Shannon L. Harris, Ph.D., alongside a stellar team of authors, have been recognized with the 2023 Management Science Best Paper Award from the Manufacturing and Service Operations Management Journal (M&SOM)!

Their paper, "Overbooked and Overlooked: Machine Learning and Racial Bias in Medical Appointment Scheduling," stands out for its contributions to the theory and practice of operations management.

Recent weeks have seen our Accounting Department in full swing!

The Accounting Advisory Council, in their fall meeting on December 1, Colleen Conrad, EVP, and COO of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) presented insights on the state of the accounting profession. Council members connected with students followed by discussions on community involvement.

Just a week later on December 8, achievements were celebrated at The Jefferson during the 2023 Accounting Luncheon where guest speaker Wendy Lewis, CPA, and Office Managing Partner at KPMG's Audit Practice and current Chair of the Virginia Board of Accountancy inspired attendees in telling of the strides made toward diversity and inclusion within the accounting profession throughout her career.
