Environmental Literacy Lessons Using Culturally Relevant Phenomena for Secondary Science Educators in SoCal - $1,000 stipend
This virtual professional learning series is designed for 9-12 science and career technical education teachers. Learning will focus on environmental literacy and climate science and change. We will also connect the Next Generation Science Standards and career technical education to the California Environmental Principles and Concepts. We further aim to connect students with culturally relevant, local phenomena to engage in science. Come and learn from experts in the field and collaborate with fellow educators to develop instructional resources for your classroom. A stipend of $1,000 will be available to teachers who participate in all of the professional learning sessions and activities. Substitute costs will be reimbursed if your school is in session. The series runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 2-5. The deadline to apply is July 1.

Attend this webinar series for K-12 educators to teach about ocean literacy in ways that will unlock the potential of the ocean. The UCI Science Project and The Ocean Agency have teamed up to provide content support and resources that seek to activate student agency about the ocean and three major blue carbon sinks (Mangroves, Seagrass, and Coral Reefs). We will also share about exciting collaborations with Adobe to create phenomena-based investigations for students and ocean literacy storylines. Educators will learn about the United Nation Ocean Literacy Principles and the Importance of the Ocean in this first webinar with access to one of a kind teaching resources, communication toolkits, creative ways for students to take action, and more.
