Self-care is about listening to what your mind and body need and providing that to yourself. You function better when mental health is prioritized.
It’s starting to get cold out, which can mean decreased mental health state. Take a few minutes and check in with yourself.
Today is World Mental Health Day. Remember to make your mental health just as much a priority as your physical health.
Wellbrook Counseling is accepting new clients! Reach out if you or someone you know is in need of services.

Happy New Year from Wellbrook Counseling!
Setting Boundaries:
Thanksgiving can be a wonderful time of thankfulness. Being around family and friends can bring up emotions and thoughts that lead to a decreased mental state. Learning to set and respect boundaries during this holiday will help you protect and improve your mental health.
Going into this Thanksgiving-
Who do you need to set boundaries with?
Whose boundaries do you need to respect?
Setting Boundaries:
Knowing when others are communicating their boundaries is just as important as communicating your own.
When other people communicate their boundaries Listen and Respond accordingly. Even when you have violated boundaries in the past, you can begin to respect them now.
How others can communicate their boundaries with you:
"I don't like when you do..."
"I would like it if you did not touch me right now"
"No, thank you"
"I don't feel comfortable talking about that right now"
Saying "no"
Others do not have to explain their boundaries to you, just as you do not have to explain yours to them. Respecting the boundaries of others is important in developing a healthy relationship with those around you.
Learning to respect boundaries for the first time can be hard. Message Wellbrook Counseling with more help and understanding.
Setting Boundaries:
In order to communicate boundaries with other people:
-Use "I" statements
-Discuss what is bothering you in this situation
-Discuss what you need from that person in that moment
-Discuss what you need in future situations
Use these prompts to help you start the conversation:
"I have a problem with..."
"I understand your view point, this is how I feel..."
"I feel uncomfortable about..."
"It is important to me that..."
"I don't feel comfortable saying/doing..."

Setting Boundaries:
What is a boundary?
An invisible "barrier" between yourself and others. Boundaries are limits in which you will not go and where others are not welcome.
Boundaries are hard to communicate to others when someone has not been able to explore and understand their own boundaries.
Continue to follow posts discussing boundaries throughout the month.
Today is . What is your favorite flavor of cupcake?
Mine is:
Holidays and Winter are coming up quickly. Which means shorter days and longer nights.
Checking in with yourself and your mental health is important. Start to use these questions to help:
Am I still motivated to complete basic tasks?
Am I proud of myself?
Am I taking the time to meet my own needs?
Am I experiencing more stress than normal?
Do I express myself clearly to others?
Do I ask for help when I need it?
Am I able to respond appropriately instead of reacting?
What can I do in this moment to help meet a need of my own?
Nutrition plays an important role in physical and mental health. In order to thrive appropriately, one must consume a sufficient diet.
Today is World Food Day, bringing awareness to the lack of food availability in most of the world and lack of appropriate consumption of food in the world.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month:
1 in 8 Women are diagnosed over their lifetime
85% of Breast Cancers occur in women with no family history
2nd deadliest cancer for women in the U.S. (behind lung cancer)
Today is National Metastatic Breast Cancer Day:
Stage IV breast cancer that has spread to another part of the body, most commonly the liver, brain, bones, or lungs.
Breast Cancer has become a common diagnosis, but a startling and scary one. Dealing with the different emotions can be difficult for those diagnosed, family members, and support systems. Seek the help of a counselor if you are experiencing changes in mood, concentration, sleep, appetite, or interests. This can be a difficult time to adjust to all the new changes, having a non-biased person to help you work through your thoughts and emotions is important.
Women deserve treatment for both Breast Cancer and Mental Health

Good Morning!
It is Friday, so close to the weekend. As we are going into this weekend, I wanted to share some self-care ideas to implement over the weekend.
I know this is the last weekend of summer for most families, as kids are returning to school next week.
Remember to implement these in times of high stress to help "reset", or to try and prevent increased stress.
Have a happy weekend!
