In a world filled with constant distractions and endless entertainment options, it's easy to lose sight of the present moment. We often seek external sources of amusement to fill the void within us, forgetting that true joy and contentment lie within our own minds.

Mindfulness is the key to building a foundation for a mind that needs no entertainment to enjoy the moment. It is the practice of being fully present, aware of our thoughts, feelings, and sensations without judgment. By cultivating mindfulness, we can train our minds to find satisfaction and fulfillment in the simplest of moments.

When we are mindful, we become attuned to the beauty and wonder that surrounds us. We notice the vibrant colors of a sunset, the soothing sound of raindrops, or the gentle touch of a loved one. We appreciate the taste of our food, the warmth of a hug, or the feeling of grass beneath our feet.

By embracing mindfulness, we free ourselves from the constant need for external stimulation. Wellness is a state of being that encompasses physical, mental, emotional, financial, and spiritual health. It's about taking care of yourself in all aspects of your life, so that you can live your best life possible. There are many ways to achieve wellness, and it's important to find what works best for you.

One way to improve your physical wellness is to exercise regularly. This can include anything from going for a walk to lifting weights at the gym. Exercise not only helps you maintain a healthy weight, but it also releases endorphins that can improve your mood and reduce stress.

"People at risk for depression are dealing with a lot of negative thoughts, feelings, and beliefs about themselves and this can easily slide into a depressive relapse," says Willem Kuyken, Ph.D., a professor at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.

"Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy helps them to recognize that's happening, engage with it in a different way and respond to it with equanimity and compassion."

In addition to cognitive, affective, and behavioral features, depression has many unpleasant sensations associated with it, too.

Gut churning; chest tightening; jaw clenching; inner shakiness; head pressure; crushing fatigue; and/or visceral, live wire agitation.

These are some of the descriptors that people use when trying to convey the sensations they often experience during an episode of depression.

If someone you know is suffering from clinical depression, try to understand that it's not just a passing blue mood or a state of sadness. Rather it is a potentially debilitating, sometimes lethal condition that can ravage people's souls and lead them to feel "broken," "hollow," “empty,” “hopeless,” and "worthless," as well as in genuine pain and horrible sensory discomfort.
