In honor of today being Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR), Transforming Generations will be taking the time off today to reflect, learn about the violence that affects the transgender community, and honor those whose lives were lost.

Every year, Trans Day of Remembrance happens on November 20th to honor all the transgender people whose lives were lost to anti-transgender violence in that year. This year we are honoring the lives of 109 transgender individuals who have passed away in the United States since November 2022, according to National Center for Transgender Equality's 2023 Remembrance Report, and also those who have passed away and are not included in the report. Below is a quote by the National Center for Transgender Equality that highlights the importance of today.

"The 2023 Remembrance Report highlights the need for collective mourning and advocacy. Everyone lost was valuable and deserves to be recognized as their true and whole selves. Trans Day of Remembrance reminds us to reflect on our collective responsibility to protect the most vulnerable and heal the wounds they have suffered. The youngest person in the 2023 Remembrance Report was just 14 years old, which only emphasizes the need to create a world where all trans youth can grow and thrive." We recently got the opportunity to partner w/ Children's Theatre Company for PRIDE Night for their showing of the theater performance, "Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress". It was amazing getting to be a part of their talkback, along with sharing our services, to speak on how important it is that there's positive & authentic LGBTQ+ representation for young people. What a fun experience we all had!

Closing out Domestic Violence Awareness month with these beautiful photos from TG's Healing Our Soul Banquet (HOS) earlier this month.

HOS Banquet is dedicated to memorializing lives lost as a result of domestic violence homicides and murder suicides. This year's theme was Finding Hope Again: Impact of Murder Suicides. Impacted families joined to share their stories, victim/survivors from the q***r community shared their own stories of healing from intimate partner violence and we got to celebrate and honor two amazing community member and advocates for our Valiance Award and Intrepidity Award.

In addition, artists, dancers and musicians joined us with entertainment and of course, good Hmong food!

Thank you to our volunteers, planning committee members, board members and community members for your contributions.

Interested in being on the planning committee next year? Let us know!
Special shout out to TJ Lor of Jual Visuals for capturing these moments!

Congratulations to Reviving the Islamic Sisterhood for Empowerment and all of this year's BMPP awardees!

It's ! We hope that LGBTQ+ people anywhere and everywhere know there's a community out here that cares.

This process is personal and looks different for each of us. You get to have choice about when, if, and how you come out, and to whom. Find folks you trust to come out to like friends, family members, etc. It is helpful to have people support you regardless of how others may react.

No one can invalidate your experience and identity. You can't control or predict how people may respond to your coming out, but negative reactions are not your fault. You deserve love and respect for who you are. And your story is yours to share.

You matter. You are enough. ✨🌈✨

This week, some TG staff are out at the 2023 Peer-to-Peer National ARP convening in Washington D.C. hearing about the amazing work many other BIPOC DV/SA organizations are doing across the US. We're also connecting and sharing about the incredibly important work of TG. It has been extremely affirming to hear that many other organizations are experiencing similar challenges, and so refreshing to be strategizing solutions for our community together as well as learning some skills we can all add to our tool box.
