Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers announced to enslaved persons in Texas that the US Civil War had ended and that they had been freed from bo***ge by the Emancipation Proclamation (2 years prior).

However, the fight for Black liberation was not resolved with the end of slavery and the close of the US Civil War. Today, we continue to fight and work towards justice and equality for all.
