Representative Omar shared her personal connection to Adult Education: watching her grandfather attend free English and citizenship classes in Minnesota and eventually passing the citizenship test at age 80.

Why literacy?
Without literacy, itโs nearly impossible to succeed in school, find or keep a job, support your family, navigate health and financial decisions or fully contribute to your community. But with literacy, so many of our costly social concerns โ from unemployment and poverty to crime and rising health care costs โ would begin to disappear.
Literacy Minnesota strengthens literacy services in the state by providing training, technical assistance and national service resources to other organizations, and serves Minnesotans by teaching children and adults life-changing literacy skills.
At Literacy Minnesota, we believe every Minnesotan should have the literacy skills they need to fully contribute to their community, and weโve dedicated the last 45 years to helping hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans achieve this goal.
