Pipers, you brought the energy indoors last night despite the rain! From an intense game of tug-of-war to handstand sack races, the energy was unbeatable.

A big thank you to the Hamline University Programming Board (HUBP) and everyone who made the evening such a blast.

The Welcome Week celebrations continue this evening at 6 p.m. with a Piper beach party at Lake Bde Maka Ska Beach in Minneapolis. Buses will depart from the Bishop Statue at 5:30 p.m.

Student Named as Fulbright Scholar | Hamline University - Minnesota 08/29/2024

Congratulations, Maddie Swanson '24, public health sciences and environmental and climate studies, on being named a Fulbright Scholar! Maddie was named a 2024 Fulbright Alternate shortly before she graduated earlier this year.

“I didn't think it would be a reality that I would go after being named an alternate. I did my best to take my life step-by-step, so I graduated and started my internship at Hennepin County. Then, in late May, I was offered a finalist position and living expenses for a year in Amsterdam."

The Fulbright Scholarship is one of the most prestigious postgraduate programs. It allows the recipient to pursue graduate study and conduct research abroad. As a Fulbright Scholar, Maddie will travel to Amsterdam to pursue a master's degree in political science at Vrije University, specializing in global governance, sustainability, and climate change.

Best of luck in Amsterdam, Maddie! We can’t wait to see what you do next!

Student Named as Fulbright Scholar | Hamline University - Minnesota Madelyn Swanson ’24 will pursue a master's degree at Vrije University in Amsterdam as part of the prestigious program.

Howdy, Pipers! Did you know that Hamline has a micro-farm and garden that you can visit to learn more about gardening and enjoy some fresh produce? It’s true!

Earlier this summer, the Hamline University MicroFarm, located north of East Hall, and SPROUT Garden, located south of Hamline Church, was one of 13 Twin Cities gardening initiatives to be awarded a USDA Twin Cities Urban Agriculture Micro-Grant Program by Renewing the Countryside. The grant is part of a nationwide effort to invest in urban agriculture to help promote equity, food access, local and regional food systems advancement, and environmental conservation.

Built in June 2018 by a group of environmental studies students and associate professor Valentine Cadieux, the faculty supervisor, the MicroFarm started as three long garden beds and has continued to expand since then.

Every summer, the MicroFarm is managed by three student interns. It aims to increase access to food and land education and encourage community building. The produce grown at the MicroFarm is intended for community members to enjoy at their own pleasure and through Hamline's Food Resource Center. So stop by to get to know your community members, get involved in gardening, spend time with plants, or simply grab a tasty snack!

It was a real garden party on the Old Main Lawn yesterday afternoon as Pipers showed off their green thumbs and sprouting creativity in a flurry of potting soil and succulent greens at the Adopt-A-Plant + Make-A-Pot event. A big thank you to the Hamline University Programming Board (HUBP) and everyone who made the evening possible.

The Welcome Week celebrations continue this evening at 9 p.m. on the Drew Science Lawn with Movie on the Lawn & Movie Bingo: "Pitch Perfect". Be sure to bring a comfy blanket and arrive early to snag the ideal movie-watching spot.

The Center is located in West Hall 110 and offers free groceries, microwaveable meals, menstrual products, COVID-19 tests, KN95 masks, household goods, and more.

You don't need proof of need to take any of the resources, so feel free to come by and take what you need.

As Pipers, we believe giving our time and using our skills to improve and transform our communities is important. That's why, as part of Fall Orientation, first-year Pipers participate in service projects in and around the Hamline-Midway neighborhood.

This year, Pipers helped pick up trash, w**d gardens and flowerbeds, plant flowers, distribute fliers, and put up signs promoting upcoming neighborhood events.

We are so proud and grateful for all your work to better and enrich our community, Pipers. Thank you!

We hope your thinking caps are on tight, that your laptop is fully charged, and you slept well last night because... IT'S THE FIRST DAY OF CLASSES!

To celebrate, the Hamline University Leadership Team personally distributed donuts this morning.

We hope that you have an excellent first day, Pipers!

Come on, Piper athletic fans; it's time to stand up and shout as our champions of courts, tracks, fields, pools, and gymnasiums, our beloved student-athletes, are back on campus—and in record-setting numbers.

This year's student-athlete population will be one of the largest Hamline has ever seen in its 170-year history, with nearly 30% of students participating in athletics. A significant part of that achievement is our incoming student-athlete class. So, please let out an especially loud and joyous cheer as Hamline welcomes 160 first-year student-athletes, and 23 transfer-student athletes, the largest incoming student-athlete class in at least a decade.

As a student-athlete and researcher, Nancy Benedict '25, a double major in biology and public health sciences, wanted to examine the impact of college athletes' diets on their performance for her summer collaborative research for undergraduate students (SCUR) project. To collect her data, Nancy created an anonymous survey and dietary tracker for collegiate student-athletes to complete.

In talking about the experience, Nancy shares how she hoped her findings would help dispel some misunderstandings about the performance potential of vegan and vegetarian student-athletes. Nancy also shares how conducting research like this is beneficial in helping her pursue her goal of working in the healthcare field.

Hey, Pipers, hope you're hungry because we’re serving up a new dining experience starting this upcoming semester, which... STARTS IN ONLY TWO WEEKS!

Hamline has partnered with a new food service company, Sodexo, and they will be introducing several new features. One of the most significant changes that we'll be introducing is the Everyday app, which will let you view our menu, including the nutritional values and allergens for every item available. What's more, you can order from Pipers Grill for pickup directly from the app.

Another exciting addition is the Simply 3 station, which offers allergen-safe options for Pipers with food allergies. All the food stocked at the station will be prepared without tree nuts, peanuts, dairy, or gluten.

Finally, Pipers Grill and Leo's Corner will feature halal options.

Follow our new dining social media account, , to stay updated on all the deliciously exciting dining changes.
