SCTV is at the Boys & Girls Club of Lower Merrimack Valley with State Senator Bruce Tarr for the Salisbury leg of Sen Tarr’s Annual Holiday Toy Drive.
On January 23, Salisbury and ten other Whittier communities will vote on whether or not to fund a new school building for vocational education. If adopted, Salisbury’s share could require a Proposition 2 ½ override. A failure to pass an override could cause very deep cuts in Town services. Even if the new building is not funded, the repairs to the existing building could add huge costs for all towns and cities. No regional school funding is optional Watch the Whittier presentation recorded by SCTV at the public library on December 5 to hear a discussion of the proposal and the deeper issues at stake. Whittier Tech Building Presentation at Library 12-5-2023 Live at 7pm
Whittier Tech Superintendent Maureen Lynch will be making a presentation of the school’s new building project plans at the Salisbury Public Library on Tuesday, December 5, at 7:00 PM in the Community Room. Members of the public are invited to attend and ask questions.
The Whittier Technical Vocational School District has been planning to build a new facility at its Haverhill campus, and has had its proposed plan accepted by the Mass. School Building Authority (MSBA), which provides state financial assistance to new school building projects. The current estimated price of the project is $444.6 million, with anticipated State reimbursements of $181 million, leaving a net cost of $264 million to be paid by the 11 cities and towns in the Whittier school district.
Superintendent Lynch will discuss the need for the new facility, the options that were discussed (renovation vs. new construction), the planning process for the project, the proposed process for getting the project approved by the 11 member communities, and the anticipated cost to each of the cities and towns in the Whittier district.
