Elena Kurudza, MD, is a 4th-year resident finishing up an incredible research year studying the effect of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) macrophages on glioblastomas. Although CAR-T cells are a promising new way to treat blood cancer, treatment of solid tumors has been limited.
Dr. Kurudza's research focuses on creating CAR macrophages that target glioblastoma cells and promote tumor death. She hopes that her research will aid in the development of a novel treatment for glioblastomas.
To support the research of Dr. Kurudza and our other residents, check out uofuhealth.org/NeurosugeryGivingDay
And a huge thank you to everyone that has already donated!
It's almost !
Michael Bounajem, MD, a 4th-year resident, is completing his Master of Science in Clinical Investigation. Dr. Bounajem has studied clinical trial design, biostatistics, epidemiology, and grant writing in order to improve his future research in ways that he hopes will improve neurosurgical practice and patient outcomes.
Dr. Bounajem’s degree hasn’t slowed his clinical work—he has already begun applying his new skills to ongoing projects and has participated in a pilot study that received seed funding to develop an endovascular technique for sampling endothelial cells in diseased carotid arteries.
