For 35 years, CATALYST Magazine has had its finger on the pulse of our society's most intriguing movement: the rise of the "cultural creatives" — those who take a whole-systems approach to the world's ecological, social and spiritual crises. This has netted us the enthusiastic support of the community — and a stable of terrific advertisers, who value the unique demographics our editorial content attracts. Our growth since 1982 has been steady. Conservative, one might say. We prefer the word "organic." If conservative growth produces an institution, organic growth grows an organism — something vital, alive, responsive. We think we've got a venerable organism here.

In 2016, we became a nonprofit organization, under the name Common Good Press, to better serve the community and expand our horizons. For many years, people assumed CATALYST already was a nonprofit, so we decided to make the shift. Since becoming a nonprofit, we have taken on the leadership of putting on the annual Utah Clean Air Solutions Fair, an event to bring awareness around our city’s pervasive air quality problems, and bring the community around solutions, and ways to maintain good health during the months of inversion in the Salt Lake valley.
