Servicemembers Undertaking Disabled Sports - SUDS
Adaptive adventure sports program for injured servicemembers. We are a multi-sport program working with Veterans who were injured in Iraq & Afghanistan.
We offer scuba, rock climbing, mountain biking, canyoneering, backpacking, fishing and paddleboarding.
It’s been raining since we got here but we didn’t let that old Frog Strangler stop us from getting our first two dives in today!
The advanced party made it, now we’re just waiting on the Boys.
Here's a nice article about our upcoming trip to St John in the US Virgin Islands.
Low Key Watersports and Love City Businesses Treat Veterans Group to Healing Retreat | News of St. John Good Morning, Good Morning! How is everyone doing out there in the world? As the slowest time of the year comes to a blissful close, things are starting to
It was a beautiful time to be in Maine. Our hosts Kris and Marla made it even better. From leaf peeping to fishing, rock climbing, hiking and exploring the Pine Tree State, we had a full schedule. It’s hard to beat a “fall foliage” trip to New England in October!
We want to send out a huge THANK YOU to Michael Frey, Eric Cress and all the folks who helped put on and attended the 20th Annual Deep Sea Divers Charity Golf Classic. There was a little hiccup in getting the proceeds from the event because the check got "washed" but with their diligence and Navy Federal stepping up to the plate everything worked out in the end. It's events like these that help us keep on keeping on. For almost 17 years we've worked with hundreds of Veterans through adventure sports and the outdoors is often where the magic happens. Our hats are off to the Deep Sea Divers!
What do you do when you get blown out and can’t dive…you go paddling at Cypress Springs.
We’ve had some tip-top dives so far with Panama City Diving. Today’s highlight was a Sandbar Shark and a Goliath Grouper. Tonight the Atlanta Aquanauts are putting on their annual fundraising event for SUDS.
And it begins…DiveFest 2023❗️
Sea conditions are looking tip top today!
Nothing like being in Utah and the Wasatch Mountains during the summer. We had an action packed schedule which included mountain biking, fly-fishing, whitewater rafting, hiking and exploring my favorite state. So much to do and see…but not enough time to get it done in a week!
Gettin’ that natural Rocky Mountain High!
More good times on the Weber River today!
Fish on…landed quite a few Browns today!
It’s a great time to be in the Wasatch Mountains…and out of that south Texas heat!
We just got back from Mexico yesterday. We were in search of Whale Sharks…and we succeeded. We saw 3 in total and got some nice dives in too. We had to go 15 miles offshore to find them but we were graced by two adults and one juvenile. The whale shark is a slow-moving, filter-feeding carpet shark. The largest confirmed individual had a length of 61.7 feet.
Time to go home…
In 35 years of diving I've only seen 2 Whale Sharks in the wild and that was on an oil rig 17 miles off the coast of Texas. Tomorrow we're headed to Isla Mujeres, MX in search of the Whale Sharks. Wish us luck!
We’ve just learned of the passing of a longtime SUDS participant and good friend...Major David C. Underwood. May you rest in peace Pardner!

Today is Father’s Day, a day to honor the dads in our lives and all that they’ve done for us. For many, fathers serve as strong leaders, providers, and supporters. To all the superhero dads out there, we salute you!

Our Story
SUDS was established in February of 2007 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. The program is for service members who have a permanent physical disability requiring adaptation. Our certification training agency is (SDI) Scuba Diving International. The program is run by a dedicated staff of volunteers who are passionate about helping our service members learn about diving and other adaptive sports. Our dive staff are dedicated to the Mission and 80% of our Board Members are former or current military.
