The theme of this year’s World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is “Leave No Child Behind in the Fight Against Human Trafficking.” According to the United Nations, children make up a significant portion of human trafficking victims worldwide. ChildSafe is committed to serving the children of Bexar County and supports all efforts to both here and around the world.

San Antonio, Let's Lead in Protecting Our Children!
Decades of research show that crisis nurseries are effective in preventing child abuse, keeping families intact, and avoiding foster care. It's time for San Antonio to lead—not in child abuse statistics, but in protecting children and strengthening families.
A proposal for a crisis nursery will soon go before the City Council. This initiative will provide emergency care for young children and connect parents with essential resources, aiming to reduce the high rates of child abuse in our city.

Our Director of Prevention & Community Awareness, Elizabeth Reeves, and Chief Program Officer, Jennifer Othman recently met with Northwest Vista’s Community Healthcare Worker (CHW) program. ChildSafe’s CHW program is now going into year three of programming after two successful years of proven outcomes. Our CHW’s provide essential services like strengthen economic supports for families, intervene to lessen harm and prevent future risk, and help families navigate their communities to improve access to care and resources.

Our President & CEO, Randy McGibeny, kicked off our 24-25 fiscal year this week with a new event called “Coffee with the CEO”. This quarterly event aims to increase interdepartmental collaboration and assist in our strategic plan to maintain ChildSafe’s culture of openness and transparency. In observance of the national Juneteenth holiday, ChildSafe will be closed tomorrow, June 19th. We will reopen for normal business hours on Thursday, June 20th. We wish you an impactful and meaningful day of commemoration.

ChildSafe had the honor of hosting the Second Quarterly Statewide Data Peer Review for fellow Children's Advocacy Centers across Texas. Members of this group are responsible for data collection and evaluation within their respective CACs, and get together to discuss best practices, FAQs, and networking opportunities.

We wish all of our peers safe travels as they head back to their agencies to continue serving children throughout our state!

Planning ahead, talking with kids will help San Antonio parents keep theirs safe this summer, nonprofit says The nonprofit also said supervision and setting boundaries is key to prioritizing child safety as the school year comes to an end.

Throughout the month of May, Mental Health Awareness Month, our Wellness and Diversity Committees hosted several curated events for our staff centered around the 8 dimensions of wellness. This week, we hosted a Glitter Jar/Water color event to support mindfulness, relaxation, and creativity. It was a sparkling good time! Next month on Thursday, June 6th from 12-1 PM, as part of our Guest Speaker Series, ChildSafe will be hosting Executive Director & Founder of NextTalk, Mandy Majors for a conversation on “Raising Kids in a Digital World”. NextTalk is a nonprofit dedicated to keeping children safe online and strengthening families through open communication. In celebration of Internet Safety Month, Mandy will present on the dangers of the online world for children and discuss tips for caregivers on opening communication about digital citizenship/safety with children.
