ACPD Employee of the Week 07/15 - 07/19/2024
Employee of the Week. Joseph has been a member of the Department since October 2015. He is assigned to A Shift patrol. Interim Lieutenant Jacob Escobedo recommended Officer Delgado for his outstanding work.
It is our pleasure to announce the Alamo Colleges Police Department employee of the week, Officer Joseph Delgado!
Interim Lieutenant Jacob Escobedo provided the following recommendation for Officer Delgado,
On Friday 07/19/2024 Officer Delgado was dispatched for an individual knocking on doors and attempting to enter the daycare at St. Phillips College.
Officer Delgado checked the original building he was dispatched to with negative results. Officer Delgado continued to check the surrounding buildings and found an individual matching the description at the west entrance of the Child Care Center on campus. After further investigation, it was determined the individual was a s*x offender. The individual had loose-fitting pants and the middle part of the pants was torn causing his ge****ls to be exposed if he opened his legs. We worked with the criminal investigation division and Lt. McCombs who registers s*x offenders associated with the Alamo Colleges to verify the last time the individual had registered. Officer Delgado was able to determine the individual was not associated with Alamo Colleges. The individual had not registered with the City of San Antonio when he was released from the Texas Department of Corrections in August, of 2021 and has been living in San Antonio for approximately a year. He was booked into the Bexar County Jail for failure to comply with registration requirements.
Officer Delgado showed great professionalism and kept the campus community safe. The daycare was open for business. Officer Delgado was able to provide a service to his community. The investigative work Officer Delgado took during this call is what we strive for and expect from all uniformed personnel.

Alamo Colleges Police Department sends our most sincere condolences to the family and loved ones. We stand together as a beacon of strength and support.
It is with great sadness to report that Deputy Meredith Portillo, 20, lost her life earlier this morning as a result of a fatal accident involving a suspected wrong way driver along IH-37 S and Donop Rd in South Bexar County.
Deputy Portillo, who was off-duty, had two other occupants in the vehicle at the time when they were struck by the wrong way driver. Deputy Portillo and one passenger were killed upon impact, while one other passenger in her vehicle was seriously injured. The suspect driver was also killed upon impact.
Deputy Meredith Portillo began her law enforcement career with the Bexar County Sheriffโs Office at the age of 19, in September of 2023. Meredith graduated from the detention academy in January of 2024, and was at the beginning of her career.
At this time our thoughts and prayers remain with the Portillo Family. Funeral arrangements are forthcoming and will be announced when they become available.
