🚌 When your child steps on the bus, there's an extra layer of safety and security in place to get them to school and back home safely. 🏠

The North East ISD Transportation team utilizes the SMART Tag system for all elementary, middle and high school bus riders.

When students enter or exit a school bus, they scan their SMART ID Tag on a tablet. This provides valuable real-time information for our bus drivers, NEISD Transportation, school administrators and parents.

These secure tags do NOT contain personal student information and cannot be used to monitor a child's location when they're not on the bus.

The system includes several layers of efficiency and safety:
📸 Bus drivers can see student photos and names on their tablets when IDs are scanned, which helps ensure the child is on the correct bus
📍 Bus drivers can easily verify authorized guardians at pick-up locations.
📱 Parents can access an online portal with text notifications, including when the bus is nearby and when their students get on or off the bus.
⏱️ Transportation staff and school administrators can track real-time data on routes.
🧭. Dispatchers can view maps with live GPS bus locations and ridership data.

The system is being rolled out to all campuses and will soon be implemented on Special Education routes and students who take the bus to their magnet school.

San Antonio students buzz ahead to National Spanish Spelling Bee In dual-language programs, competitive and super-motivated by prior defeats, they’ll be in El Paso to face kids from across the United States.

Summer is just around the corner and NEISD has a very special Summer Feast for you on Jun. 13, 2024 from 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM at Ed White Middle School.

NEISD Summer Feast is an event open to all NEISD parents and their children from elementary, middle and high school. Children 18 and under will be provided a free lunch at the event through our free summer meal program.

In addition to the lunch program, the event will feature a resource fair with tables representing District departments, business partners and community agencies.

Each family in attendance will leave with a free produce bag courtesy of the San Antonio Food Bank.*

Christus Children's Mobile Clinic will be on hand to provide immunizations.

Featured Vendors and Partners include: San Antonio Zoo, San Antonio Healthy Neighborhoods/Metro Health, YMCA, Laurel Ridge Treatment Center, Sylvan Learning, Pets Alive, Any Baby Can, Family Service, Urban Strategies, Autism Community Network, City of San Antonio Metro Health, CRIT San Antonio, San Antonio Parks and Recreation, SA Kids BREATHE, and more!

Two outstanding students from our NETS program stepped up to the podium to provide the invocation and pledge to the U.S. and Texas flags Monday, April 8, at the regular meeting of the North East ISD Board of Trustees.

NETS stands for North East Transition Services. NETS provides NEISD students with disabilities who have completed their high school program the extra support they need to transition and thrive in life after high school.

Ben Guadarrama led guests in the invocation. Ben has attended NETS for two years and has gained a variety of skills.

Ben is currently an intern in the Project SEARCH program at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital Alamo Heights where he is receiving hands on job training, mentoring and support. He volunteers in several departments at the hospital, and his hard work and positivity is appreciated by all who meet him.

Ben has received two Superintendent’s Awards for completing volunteer work through NETS. He is a wonderful role model for his siblings, peers and those who have the pleasure of working with him.

Michael Valerio Benavidez recited the pledge of allegiance. Michael is a first-year student at NETS. He has thrived within his transition skills and independence. So far, he has volunteered at the North East Police Department (NEPD), BFI Treasures, and the Doseum to build his vocational skills and help him access his post-secondary goals. He has also received a Senior Award for his involvement and dedication to Special Olympics and is a part of a unified Special Olympics team called Best Friends.

Michael and Ben were introduced by Lorena Gonzalez, NEISD Special Education Director.

Felicidades to our Spanish Spelling Bee winners! 🌟

Coker Elementary School fifth grader Caleb Caro and Eisenhower Middle School eighth grader Nathan Martinez were recognized during Monday evening’s meeting.

The two won big as the top spellers in the elementary and middle school categories at the Region 20 Spanish Spelling Bee, topping competitors from around the region. They will both go on to compete at the National Spanish Spelling Bee in El Paso this summer.

Save the date and join us in wearing purple on Monday, April 15, as NEISD celebrates Purple Up! For Military Kids Day. 🇺🇸 💜 🇺🇸

April is Month of the Military Child. Part of our District’s success in helping support our military families is our Student 2 Student (S2S) program.

NEISD is proud to have 65 campuses with Purple Star Designation. This Texas Education Agency designation goes to schools that excel in meeting the needs of military students and their families.

S2S is an award-winning program connecting civilian students with newly-enrolled military children to ease the transition of being the “new kid” at school. They tour the campus together, eat lunch together and answer questions that come with moving to a new place.

Don’t forget to wear purple on April 15 to show support and thank our military youth and families for their strength and sacrifices.
