Idaho Peace Officer’s Memorial…

Honor One has now visited every state law enforcement memorial in the contiguous U.S.

Ada County Deputy Tobin Bolter was shot and killed exactly one month prior to our visit. His wreath at the memorial was still fresh. We paid our respects to Deputy Bolter, along with other Idaho Officers who died in the line of duty.

South Dakota

We had the pleasure to meet Sheriff Patrick Callahan and Chief Jason Jones at the South Dakota Law Enforcement Memorial. Pierre has a beautiful capitol complex — we were lucky to get a private tour of the capitol building during our visit. Sheriff Callahan really knows his history, which made the tour that much cooler!

South Dakota lost Chief Deputy Sheriff Ken Prorok this year, when he was struck by a felon fleeing law enforcement in a vehicle. Deputy Prorok was killed as he deployed spike strips to stop the vehicle. He worked for the Moody County Sheriff’s Office for 8 years. He is survived by his wife and three children.

The Tennessee Officer’s Memorial was covered by construction fencing, but that didn’t stop us! Tennessee Highway Patrol are the custodians of the memorial and took time out of their day to visit with us. We also got to see an old friend from SDPD who now works in Nashville.

Thank you to the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial Association and Capitol Police for hosting us in Madison!

The Wisconsin memorial was funded, over many years, by private donations and fundraisers. The granite used in the memorial is the same granite from the same quarry that the capitol building is built from. Part of the facade was damaged during riots and has since been repaired.

Tragically, 4 names were added to the memorial this year. The fallen officers honored included: Milwaukee Police officer Peter Jerving, Chetek Police officer Emily Breidenbach, Cameron Police officer Hunter Scheel and Saint Croix County deputy Kaitlin Leising. Their names and legacy will never be forgotten.

We ended our day at the Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial. Saint Paul PD made this visit extra special for us, as they brought along a large group of their K9’s to honor K9 Sir. This was the biggest turnout on our trip so far, and definitely the most subtly majestic memorial we’ve seen on this trip.

Thank you to Saint Paul Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol and the Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association. What a gift to share our trip with you!

What a special morning at Northern Valley Law Enforcement Memorial. We paid our respects to the fallen Officers of North Dakota.

Officer Cody Holte, of Grand Forks Police Department, was killed in the line of duty on May 27, 2020. We were blessed to meet his surviving family today.

The Northern Valley Law Enforcement Memorial is quite new. It’s meticulously maintained, and it rests in a public park smack dab in the middle of a residential neighborhood. There is a deep beauty in the fact that this memorial is here, and accessible, and part of the community. We were deeply moved by this monument, and by the community that made it happen.

Our hearts are full after visiting with the folks of Grand Forks.

5/7/2024 - Thanks to the fine professionals at , we got back on the road with minimal delay. Officers Jones was again at the wheel and expertly navigated through wind, weather and road construction. We are still a couple hours from Grand Forks, ND where we hope to get a few hours rest.

5/6/2024 - We started our day in Spokane Valley, WA where we were fortunate to be visited by John Bujosa, Ambassador of Lake (WA) and the memorial car he created to honor three fallen from Washington and Idaho. We stopped at the Montana Law Enforcement Museum in Phillipsburg, MT then the Law Enforcement Memorial on the campus of the Montana Capitol in Helena. We had a little bad luck on the last leg of our journey to Billings, MT. When we finally made it to the hotel, we found 3 other police cars in the parking lot and took it as a good omen.

Today we visited the Montana Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial. The memorial is in a beautiful spot, in full public view, and has a fantastic backdrop of the Capitol. We left behind a patch to commemorate our trip.

We started our day in Salem, OR where we visited the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training. The state memorial sits right in front of their training facility, a sobering reminder for all those men and women just beginning their career.

We were honored that Sheriff Hunter, among several other law enforcement partners, took the time to be with us.

Quote of the day: “No Chaplain Chuck, witches are from the other Salem.”

We were honored to visit the Washington State Law Enforcement Memorial today, and present a small token of our appreciation to Brian Johnston from Behind the Badge Foundation. We were especially glad to meet some exceptional officers from Olympia PD and at Thurston County Sheriff. Thanks, Officer Sarles, for bringing your K9 partner!

5/4/2024 - Unafraid of a little rain, we got an early start out of Woodland, CA and had programmed in the GPS with Officer Jones at the wheel. A short time later we encountered a bit of snow and had to stop for a photo of Southern Californians are obligated to do. heroesliveforever
