Please sign the petition and share widely! We call on our representatives in congress to support H.R. 2590: Defending the Human Rights of Palestinian Children and Families Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act.

H.R. 2590 was introduced by Congresswoman Betty McCollum(D-MN) and currently has 32 co-sponsors including our local representatives Representatives Barbara Lee, Jackie Speier, Jerry McNerney, Jared Huffman and Mark DeSaulnier, and endorsed by over 170 civil society organizations. This bill seeks to ensure that U.S. taxpayer funds are not used by the Israeli government for 1) the military detention of Palestinian children; 2) the demolition of Palestinian homes and property; and 3) to further annex Palestinian land, in violation of international law.

It is incumbent upon Congress to take responsibility for how $3.8 billion of our tax dollars a year are used to further human right violations. Holding Israel accountable for its use of U.S. aid is long overdue. In recent reports, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International state that Israel is committing “crimes against humanity of apartheid and persecution” against Palestinians, echoing the voices of Palestinian civil society. These reports outline the disturbing and systematic human rights violations committed by the Israeli government, including sweeping restrictions on freedom of movement targeting Palestinians in the occupied territories; the demolition of homes and “near-categorical denial” of building permits; de facto permanent military occupation; land expropriation; and the systematic rejection of residency rights of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.

REMINDER: This Saturday, December 9th at 9am! “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” –Audre Lorde
H.E.L.L.A. People’s On the Run is a grassroots organization collaboration between the Teachers 4 Social Justice and the People’s Education Movement to create opportunities for educators/organizers of color to heal collectively, network and build together. The acronym H.E.L.L.A. stands for Healing, Empowerment, Love, Liberation and Action, which are the guiding tenets of the H.E.L.L.A. Critical Affinity Group within T4SJ and People’s stands for the Bay Area chapter of the People’s Education Movement. Considering the structural barriers designed to keep people of color alienated, isolated and collectively disempowered within the realm of teaching and organizing [i.e. 83% of the teaching profession is White; Gentrification and the displacement of POC throughout the Bay Area, etc.] our hope is to build on our existing efforts of centering the needs, healing, strengths and individual/collective power of POC in our organizing spaces.

Every 2nd Saturday beginning in October 2017 and ending in May 2018, we will meet at the white pillars (pergola) at the edge of Lake Merritt in Oakland. At 9 am we will begin with stretching, affirmations and Assata Shakur’s chant. At 9:15 am folks will choose one of the following groups to join:
A) Mindful Meditation/Yoga Squad *please bring a yoga mat

😎 Walking Squad

C) Jogging Squad

D) Running Squad
Please come wearing all black attire, bring water and revolutionary loving/healing energy to exchange with other educators and organizers of color!

This is what looks like 😍❤️✊🏽✊🏼✊🏿✊🏾 was such a beautiful experience yesterday! Some of us were in the walking squad, some in the jogging squad and some in the mindful meditation/yoga squad. We ended by sharing appreciations, affirmations and Assata Shakur's words to fuel us for the rest of the month until we reunite on the second Saturday of December, we hope to see you

Due to unsafe air quality, we will be postponing our collective care until further notice. We hope that our and communities will consider sending love, light and resources to those impacted by these wildfires 💫💛✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿💫 to send resources please check out RYSE Center drop-off locations. "The Bay Area has been choking on wood smoke since Sunday night after wind-stoked fires broke in Napa and Sonoma counties.
On Thursday morning, most of the Bay Area reached an "unhealthy level," prompting schools to keep students inside at recess and forcing some to close entirely. "We're seeing the worst air quality ever recorded in many parts of the Bay Area," Flannigan told SFGATE earlier this week. "The entire Bay Area population is likely being affected by the smoke." The movement of smoke is dependent on the weather, said Charles Bell, a forecaster with the National Weather Service. "We're going to see a really strong settling of the smoke in the Bay Area on Friday and Saturday, not to mince words but it's going to be really bad. It's not going to be fun." http://m.sfgate.com/news/article/air-quality-San-Francisco-Bay-Area-Beijing-12272792.php -14334654
