We believe that community building is key to social change and that we can envision this change through the arts.

The Incandescent Illuminations Artists Showcase is this weekend, and QCC's team is working hard to make it accessible to as many in our community as possible. We have sliding scale tickets, so no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Sunday night (11/10) will have ASL interpretation and the venue is fully ADA-compliant for physical accessibility. We will also be encouraging masks and offering some for any who need them.

This is an important moment for our community to come together and we want the q***r joy and brilliance being shared at our Artists Showcase to be available to as many as possible. Please join us this weekend (Saturday and Sunday) for some q***r and trans creativity that will bring you into the light.

Another part of the prismatic brilliance that is our Fall Q***r Arts Festival Artists Showcase, Cristina Medrano (), aka Volcanera, is a songwriter who explores spiritual reconnection and ritual with decolonial intention. Born and raised in San Francisco with Salvadoran lineage, she embraces the AfroIndigenous rhythms of cumbia in her songwriting for its history within the q***r Latinx community.

Her songs are alloys of psychedelic rock and Spanish church hymns whose lyrics playfully challenge the colonial legacy of the catholic church on her community’s psyche. These songs transmute their grief into sensual danceable rhythms and to create communal spaces of healing through music.

Cristina has performed as a vocalist at the Starline Social Club as well as for the Communities and Culture celebration at Wilder Ranch State Park. They will be debuting a 5 song musical project at the National Q***r Arts Festival this fall as part of the Creating Q***r Communities Artists Showcase November 9 and 10 at Monument SF. Our artists who weave words are ready to light you up with spoken word, print, and comedy at this year’s Fall Q***r Arts Festival, Incandescent Illuminations. Esperanza is a q***r Xicana slam poet who creates constellations out of cereal pieces and metaphors. Ann is a q***r Taiwanese-American (occasional) comedian who explores existentialism and identity. Catch both at our Creating Q***r Communities Showcase next Friday and Saturday 11/9 and 11/10 at Monument SF!

In another life, Esperanza (she/they) was a waterbender. In this one, they’re a Xicana poetry facilitator and event organizer with 10 years dedicated to writing poetry and 2 years of experience teaching seniors, adults, and youth how to express themselves through spoken word. She’s currently an organizer with Rich Oak Events which produces the Berkeley and Oakland Slams, Alchemy Open Mic, and other community arts shows. Despite having made losing their gallbladder in 2019 her whole personality, they currently work as a teaching artist with Bay Area Creative serving youth in the east bay and San Francisco.

Ann ( ) is a q***r taiwanese-american comic and comic artist who draws silly comics about life that explore themes of existentialism, identity, and everyday observation from a more lighthearted lens. From zines poking fun at astrology and chaotic roommate situations to more contemplative sketchbooks centering favorite SF neighborhoods, Ann’s work aims to share largely inconsequential moments, conversations, and meandering thoughts that are some combination of absurd, humorous, and relatable. Their work has been exhibited at SF Zine Fest, Pride in Panels, Silver Sprocket, and more. Outside of art, Ann can usually be found running between the library, some show, and ping pong practice.

While news about the climate may be dire at times, Satchi is ready to move us through grief and into self-discovery with their music. Satchi (they/them/silly/twenty/something) is a climate anxious q***r who ruminates on what it means to exist and subsist off the climate crisis. They move through their grief and cut to the absurd with their tender, self-aware lyrics and melodies.

A 2024 Creating Q***r Communities Artist and Aspen Future Climate Leader, Satchi blurs taxonomies within and across q***rness and climate work. They frequent stages (and farms and living rooms) that center environmental justice, workers rights, and q***rness.

Currently, Satchi is unpacking the absurdity of applying to climate jobs during a genocide, and the systems that are designed to leave us precarious, unsafe, disconnected, and divided.

Satchi will be performing at the Creating Q***r Community showcase November 9 and 10 at Monument SF alongside their cohort of fellow q***r creatives. You can follow their music and politics at on Instagram and Spotify. ***rartsfestival ***rartisq***rjoy

Solar luminescence is reaching a fervor (just ask NASA!) and it couldn't be more clear (pronounced q***r) than with our upcoming Creating Q***r Communities Showcase, part of "Incandescent Illumination", this year's Fall Q***r Arts Festival. Deon Brown (music and composition) and Demi Alex Ayuna (movement and video artist, dancer) are two of the stunning flares of light beaming through the showcase, and you'd best be prepared to be moved to your feet to catch them this November 9 and 10!

Los Angeles-born Deon Brown (he/him) is a transcendent R&B/Hip Hop artist, renowned for his magnetic presence and multi-dimensional storytelling. With comparisons to Kanye West and Frank Ocean, his debut album "HOME" captivated audiences, blending spiritual depth with audacious creativity. Brown's music and visuals redefine boundaries, offering profound narratives on black identity and culture.

Demi Alex Ayuna (he/they) is an agender, trans, disabled, 2nd generation Taiwanese dancer based in unceded Ohlone Land (so called Oakland, California). Their work meanders through grief, spirituality in nature, transness, and disability. They are currently working on pieces that integrate covid grief and rage while building collective survival.

Have you ever heard the sounds of the first aurora? Or the call of the morning star? You will when you witness Chuquimamani-Condori at Weaving Spirits, a festival of Two-Spirit performance taking place October 25 and 26 at Brava Theater in SF.

Chuquimamani-Condori makes music by combining the traditional drum and ceremonial music from their Pakajaqueño family, with caporales, kullawada, and huayño. They describe their music as “the sound of our water ceremonies…40 bands playing their melodies at once to recreate the cacophony of the first aurora and the call of the morning star Venus”.

This year’s Weaving Spirits, Seeding Native Fires, is one of the anchor events of the Fall Q***r Arts Festival and is being co-produced by QCC.
