Happy Latina Day!

Our MNC Climate Corps pilot had an amazing 6-week run, capped off with a special Graduation Ceremony honoring 12 hardworking Stewards with certificates, MNC hoodies, gift cards, and a booklet of their achievements! 🌱 Over the summer, they made a huge impact at sites like Corona Heights Park, The Palace of Fine Arts, Alcatraz Island, and more—planting trees, cleaning beaches, and even beekeeping—under the leadership of Supervisor Martin Portillo and Assistant Supervisor Drew Muhoberac. 🌟

Thank you to Isabel St.Germain, Hazel Quintanilla, Michelle N., Kennidey Green, Martin Portillo, Drew Muhoberac, and all the MNC Climate Corps Stewards: Demaurier Wallace, Naarai Evans, Hali Ayala Mejia, Enrique Saldivar, Eduardo Rivas, Lexie Ramos, Kahlo Chen-Cerenio, Ximena Hernandez, Joseph Barba, Jaden Lee, Abi Desta, and Jake Thompson for making this pilot a success! The summer launch of the MNC Climate Corps is here! From July 2nd to August 8th twelve amazing young adults will be engaging in activities such as cleaning up park trails, planting trees, and restoring habitats on Alcatraz Island, Golden Gate Park and Marin with the goal of educating and inspiring the youth in areas like clean energy and environmental protection. We welcome Martin Portillo as Crew Leader and Drew Muhoberac as Assistant Crew Leader!

We were honored to have Oscar Peñaranda speak at MNC's Distinguished Speaker Series. Originally from Barugo, Leyte in the Philippines, Oscar co-taught San Francisco State's first Filipino studies classes in the late 60s-early 70s and helped establish the nation’s first school of ethnic studies. As an award-winning educator, writer, activist, and former Alaskan cannery worker, Oscar shared his experiences, stories, and love of history.

On June 7th we held our second annual MNC Experience Employee Day Event. From the very first activity to the end of day the energy was high and MNC was truly one team. We came together to celebrate accomplishments, become inspired, and discover our own superpowers, Empathy and Kindness, and how it makes us stronger individuals and an even stronger organization. GO MNC!

🎓🎉 Congratulations to the 2024 MNC GED graduates! Yesterday, we celebrated 20 amazing individuals as they achieved this huge milestone!

A big thank you to our incredible GED team—Lee Hungle, Yarina Millan Dorador, and Dagiana Millan Dorador—for organizing such a wonderful event and creating a fantastic atmosphere for our graduates, their families, friends, and staff. And thank you to Tilak for catering this special moment; the food was delicious!

At MNC we strive to help build healthy families who can express their emotions and be role models for their little ones. At a session of Abriendo Puertas we assigned parents to create a book-type story together with their children. One mom and her children created an amazing story about their journey from their country to the U.S. For the mother, reading the story brought her back and bittersweet memories and tears starting to come out. She was very courageous and vulnerable to share the story with the group and she said in a later session, “I felt the confidence to speak up, to be heard and not be judged. Since I came to the U.S. I had not cried; I felt very well after that.” Some of our team members put their arms around her to comfort her and it was such a nice and special moment and once again we realized the importance of this type of support we provide to parents.

We hosted an MNC Community Service Fair at our Wolfsohn Campus! This fair provided an excellent platform for showcasing services and contributing to community well-being. It was an opportunity to engage with like-minded individuals, share valuable resources, and collectively address community needs. Thank you to Joana Mattero and the Healthy Aging and Disability Services team for putting together this lively event!

Happy Earth Day! Together, let’s nurture the nature 💚

MNC staff were joined by the legendary Leo Rosales and his wife Virginia. Leo is the co-founder of the Latin Rock band Momotombo SF with former members of Malo and Santana. The lunch was an unforgettable event. There was laughter and even tears as Leo shared his memories of music, his time with Malo, meeting amazing artists, and his struggles with addiction. Virginia also shared stories from her life, her struggles and how she supported Leo for so many years.

Everyone in the room was inspired and emotional and gave a standing ovation for Leo and his wife. They also received the special Distinguished Speaker Series mugs. Thank you Leo and Virginia for an unforgettable day!

The MNC HR Team was present at several events such as the San Francisco City College Job Fair to showcase our career opportunities within our organization.

We participated in the Region 9 HR Network event in Oakland, a valuable platform to connect with fellow HR leaders and engage in discussions on the topic of staff wellness.

Last but not least we participated at the Cañada College Job Fair promoting our career opportunities to the students and providing insight into the wide range of services and initiatives that define MNC Inspiring Success.

Ralph Inzunza, a recent guest at MNC's Distinguished Speaker Series, engaged 71 children and youth with his latest book, "Border Citizen," depicting the upbringing of Carlos Reyes along the US-Mexico border in the 1980s. In an interactive session, he discussed themes of diversity and justice while teaching the audience the "Chicano/Latino" handshake and the "Farmworkers" clap, leaving a lasting impact on attendees. MNC presented Inzunza with the Distinguished Speaker Series mug and provided free personalized copies of "Border Citizen" to attendees, concluding a memorable event at Wolfsohn Campus.

The MNC Male Warriors series had an amazing kick-off session! This new series features outstanding guest speakers with interesting topics dealing with the role and value of the male caregiver, strengthening family relationships, child development, self-care and mental health. Our amazing facilitator, Alejandro Vilchez spoke about the 10 Ps of being a Papi, and what it is to be the Provider, the Protector, and the Presenter. Not only did this exercise bring up a lot of memories, but it was a great opportunity for the “papas” to connect and share their pride of being a father.

Author Ralph Inzunza will be doing a read-along for youth and their families of his book Border Citizen. His story is one of relatable history and inspiration for our community. There will be light refreshments as well. See you there! 🌟

Diving into Diversity: Our MNC Alemany Campus worked on a month-long project during February wherein each child learned to use the primary colors to create a skin tone that each one felt represented their own. From mixing primary colors to painting self-portraits, we embraced individuality and unity. Through daily discussions, the children have been discussing important topics such as different skin tones and the importance of coming together as a diverse learning community. 🌟

Grateful for a day of inspiration! 🌟 From engaging presentations to hands-on experiences, our MNC Mission Bay team rocked it. Ricardo and Angelica brought science to life, making it fun and engaging for all. The joy and curiosity sparked by families and teachers from across MNC as they came together to explore light and shadow was incredible, highlighting the impact of our work. Here's to many more enlightening moments ahead! 💡

A special shoutout to Ricardo and Angelica, who will be presenting their light and shadow project at the CAAEYC Conference in April. We're rooting for you!

Over the past weekend, Yuliia Hrytsenko and Viktoryia Pfening participated in the “Automaidan” rally, advocating for an end to the war in Ukraine. They met with Jose Ricardo Bondoc, a Press Office Corps Member at the White House and Chief Editor of SFnewsfeed.us. Jose published an article about the rally, quoting Yuliia, who emphasized the urgency of ending the war and its impact on families, while also highlighting MNC’s support for Ukrainian families and refugees. We are incredibly proud of Yuliia and Viktoriya for their dedication and the impactful work they do!
