Hi! We're DREAM REALZERS, and we're currently participating in a video competition focused on tackling a crucial issue from the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. We've chosen to address "Life Below Water" by focusing on the problem of oil spills. Our solution? Hair mats! These innovative mats are made from human hair and are incredibly effective at absorbing oil, making them a powerful tool in mitigating the devastating effects of oil spills on marine life.

Apprenticeships through Matter of Trust are for those aged 18+ years or with High School Diploma / GED equivalent. Matter of Trust is affiliated with a wide range of schools, non-profits, government organizations, and specialized environmental businesses.

An apprenticeship is designed to develop a particular skill set that makes an individual excel in craftsmanship and green-jobs employment. Apprenticeships can be at Matter of Trust locations, online remote, or with our Global Hubs & Partners.

Hair Matters hair mats check so many boxes. They are a renewable resource solution that grows right in front of our eyes.

Purchasing hair mats supports clean water, zero waste, green jobs, while recycling and local cottage industry lower carbon emissions. Conventionally, oil spills are cleaned up by using petroleum-based polypropylene products. We don’t need to drill for oil to clean up oil, when there is so much natural, sorbent fiber available.

Celebrating our Hair Matters Global Hub Partners!
Today we are highlighting Ecolau Beauty, located in Madagascar.

Ecolau Beauty is the first hair recycling and valorization program in Madagascar. Our goal is to responsibly collect and recycle hair from hair salons in Antananarivo to produce hair mats.

These mats will be used for making hair-based mulch products for sustainable agriculture, cleaning waters in port areas and oceans, as well as rehabilitating soils in polluted sites. Ecolau Beauty will collaborate with students from the University of Antananarivo to explore the possibility of creating innovative products using hair.

Our goals are to help clean polluted water, to divert useful fibers from the waste stream, to provide recycling education and create green jobs. We accept donations of hair, fur, wool, fleece… clippings from individuals, salons, groomers, farmers…

We sort these into useful stockpiles by length and manufacture felted mats products that soak up petrochemicals in storm drains, wells, filtration systems, rivers, oceans…

Wrap Star Program

The Wrap Star Program promotes reduction and use of compostable materials. Most manufacturers use too much packaging for their products. Let’s band together to encourage companies to rethink their choices. If the public chooses to buy products that are packaged in an environmentally friendly way, this reduces the amount of plastic that ultimately winds up in our oceans.

A great school project! Set up containers at stores for people to immediately dump the packaging from their newly purchased products. Students can manually take apart and study annoying packaging, and then come up with an alternative design that is less wasteful and equally protective. We've even created a lesson plan we’ve created for students and teachers. It is a full-on interactive lesson looking at plastics and other alternative materials.

Matter of Trust Uses Pet Fur as a Renewable Resource to Clean Up Oil Spills The eco-enthusiasts at Matter of Trust want to use your your pet’s hair to soak up petrochemicals in our water sources.

Celebrating our Hair Matters Global Hub Partners!

Today we are celebrating Legendary Alpacas of Texas, located in Maypearl, Texas.
Legendary Alpacas of Texas is a 32-acre working ranch of show-quality Huacayan Alpacas that produce award-winning fleece year after year. Founder Gina Glasscock began pursuing her ‘Paca Passion in 2007 and now has over 60 alpacas and crias (babies) on the farm.

Annually, Gina shears her herd, amassing Grade 1 and Grade 2 fleece and seconds, all of which is turned into consumer end-products, such as high-quality yarn, hats and scarves, custom rugs, and other home goods and clothing items, all of which are sold on-site in her retail store. She also collects and repurposes alpaca beans (waste) into a rich compost that is cultivated, aged, and then sold as high-quality fertilizer.

Gina is an expert in alpaca genealogy and carefully tracks the lineage of current and prospective alpacas and their offspring for prime breeding opportunities that will ensure the long-term viability of the U.S. alpaca population and the integrity of best-in-class fleece. Legendary Alpacas of Texas offers alpacas for sale, for breeding, and for boarding and training and is recognized as a go-to resource for alpaca owners learning the business.

Eco-Industry Apprenticeships and Internships

Matter of Trust is a strong advocate for youth training programs and recognizes the importance of exposing high schoolers to new and innovative career paths.

We want to ensure a future where large inner-city populations make leaping advances in green building, eco-packaging, smart urban farming, clean air and water, fair trade product manufacturing, waste-stream diversion, new energy sources, and storage…

Apprentices in our programs learn about materials collection, sorting, renewables, manufacturing, composting, high-tech and low-tech design and implementation, internet presence, exhibits and eco-education, perspectives, incentives, roundtables, sales, marketing, and research.
