Afghan Friends Network (AFN) delivers sustainable programs in education and cultural exchange that promote self-sufficiency and empower Afghans.
Founded in 2002, Afghan Friends Network (AFN) is working hard to improve the lives of women and children in Afghanistan and empower educators in a country that has been ravaged for nearly 30 years by war and political strife. An all-volunteer, grass-roots organization, AFN efficiently provides support directly to the people who need it most, setting a high standard for fiscal responsibility and pr
I think back to 2015, when I met these four incredible girls in a Kabul school. They were full of dreams and hope, their potential shining brightly.
Today, those same girls are likely imprisoned at home, stripped of their ability to work, earn a living, or be represented in the city they grew up in. Their stories are a stark reminder of the severe impact of the Taliban's restrictions on Afghan women.
The rights and freedoms of Afghan women have been severely curtailed since 2021, when the Taliban took over. From losing access to education and employment to facing severe limitations on their personal freedoms, the impact has been devastating.
As we observe this somber anniversary of the Taliban takeover we are also reminded of the fact that the US and the international community have completely abandoned and forgotten about the human rights violations against Afghan women.
There is not much more to say about this other than the reality of us, I include myself in this too, turning a blind eye to gender apartheid in Afghanistan.
The Afghan Community of the Bay Area came together to remember the life of 14 year old Rezwan Kohestsni who’s life was cut too short.
