A carefully crafted rhinoplasty. The results should be both subtle and dramatic as evidenced here. This was done 6 weeks ago using an open technique with multiple small cartilage grafts to give the beautiful highlights you see here. The Piezotome provided ultrasonic shaping of the bones with no bruising and minimal swelling. Notice the change in the appearance of the upper lip in the front view no longer hidden by the nose. The profile view shows the effect of lifting the tip which is not only more attractive but younger looking.

During my consults I suggest the most suitable surgical technique or procedure to treat the functionality and structure of the nose. I then create an individualized surgical plan and my patients play a big part in the design portion of the process.

As a rhinoplasty surgeon what are the biggest challenges you face in your business?

It’s not the surgery, it’s the patients! We can control our surgical results, for the most part, but working with your patient to understand that rhinoplasty is a process—it takes time for the results to mature. The patient’s concept of the expected result—even when done with pre-operative imaging—may necessitate re-operation.
Those of us who choose to do rhinoplasty do so out of a love for our craft. Despite the vast literature and educational opportunities, it requires years of trial and error to develop good judgement. Good judgement, it is said, comes from experience; experience comes from bad judgement.
Hipprocates prophesied rhinoplasty with his motto: Ars longa, vita brevis. This translates best as “life is short and our craft takes long to learn”
