Council Member Xouhoa Bowen Elected to Asian Pacific American Municipal Officials (APAMO) Board of Directors: APAMO is one of the National League of Cities’ Six Constituency Groups

San Leandro Council Member Xouhoa Bowen was elected by her nationwide city council counterparts to serve on the National League of Cities’ Asian Pacific American Municipal Officials (APAMO) Board of Directors. Council Member Bowen was first elected to the City Council in November 2022. Reflecting on her appointment, Council Member Bowen
stated, "As a non-profit leader and now serving on the National League of Cities' APAMO Board of Directors, I'm deeply committed to empowering communities and fostering inclusive, equitable spaces for all. Addressing the rise in Asian hate crimes is a critical challenge, and I'm dedicated to working with fellow APAMO members and community leaders to share best practices for prevention, promote cultural understanding, and advocate for policies that protect and uplift our AAPI communities." Established within NLC in 1985, APAMO is a caucus within NLC that provides municipal officials who identify and ally with the Asian Pacific American to connect with their colleagues in a forum to share ideas and develop leadership experience. APAMO serves as a vehicle for members to discuss problems and explore solutions, debate policy issues and contribute to the success of American cities and towns.

Washington Manor Resilience Hub Interest Form

The Washington Manor Neighborhood Resilience Hub is looking to seek input on programming ideas and needs within the community. The Resilience Hubs Initiative was created in response to the urgent need to build resilience in our homes and communities in the wake of the climate crisis and social injustice. From recreation centers to housing complexes, resilience hubs are trusted community centers and spaces that serve as a gathering place to distribute resources, exchange information, and express community care during disasters; while supporting community programming and climate solutions year-round.

The Washington Manor neighborhood extends between Wicks Blvd on the west side, the 880 highway on the east side, the City of San Leandro border at San Lorenzo Creek to the south, and along the canal on the north side. For a more detailed map, see geosl.org

Form responses will help shape the development of programming for the resilience hub and neighborhood. The steering committee of residents will review answers and develop potential programming. Feel free to leave your contact information if you wish to participate in the committee, which meets at the Manor Library bimonthly. Program supported by the City of San Leandro Resilience Hubs Initiative.

Energy Tip from Ava Community Energy, formerly EBCE :

Did you know that a typical home loses 1/3 of its heat through windows, doors, and unsealed vents/openings? Don't just sit there and watch your money float out the window!

Before you turn your heat on, make sure all windows and doors to the outside are closed. Regularly inspect vents and openings to make sure they're sealed!
