Interestingly enough, we've gotten a lot of calls in the parish office this year about Halloween. Here is a great little article explaining some of the Catholic origins of Halloween (Hallowe'en; All Hallows Even). It is not an exhaustive history, but is decent enough to give the reader a sense of the true holiday, and the manner in which it has been usurped by secular culture and commercialized, much like Christmas has been.

Kevin Pastore grew up in Northern Virginia and earned a bachelor’s degree in Government and Politics from George Mason University. In 1998, Kevin began extensive graduate studies in Philosophy, Theology, and Sacred Scripture at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach, Florida. This prepared him for his journey as a Catholic educator, starting in 2006, teaching theology at John Carroll Catholic High School in Fort Pierce, Florida. Since then, Kevin has had extensive experience in education and catechetics.

Now, as the Parish Catechetical Leader at All Souls Catholic Church, Kevin brings over 25 years of dedicated service in a diversity of ministries fostering faith formation, spiritual growth, and evangelization. With a deep passion for accompanying individuals of all ages in discovering and deepening their relationship with God, Kevin is looking forward to joining the All Souls Catholic Church community.

HURRICANE MILTON UPDATE

Greetings from the All Souls Historic District campus. I hope y'all came through the storm safely and well. I just finished my initial walk-around. There is no building damage that I can see, except for a couple tiles from the chapel roof. But I can't see where they came from. There is flooding in the courtyard and part of the Rectory yard. There is no incursion into classrooms or offices that I can see. Some major oak branches are down, but without any structural damage. Our electricity is still on, although there is a power pole down on 10th St. just west of Myrtle Avenue. Otherwise all is good here. I can't get out to the SR 46 Church on my own, so we will have to wait for our director of operations and maintenance manager to come in later today.

I will update you on re-openings later, after the operations department fully assesses the situation.

There is significant flooding in parts of the Historic District, so exercise caution if you are driving down this way.

Finally, I was informed that AdventHealth is supplying free emergency medical care for hurricane-affected Floridians at their urgent care centers in case any of you might need that, or know somebody who does.

Saludos desde el campus del Distrito Histórico All Souls. Espero que hayan pasado la tormenta sanos y salvos. Acabo de terminar mi primera inspección. No veo daños en los edificios, excepto un par de tejas del techo de la capilla, pero no veo de dónde provienen. Hay inundaciones en el patio y parte del patio de la rectoría. No veo ninguna incursión en las aulas ni en las oficinas. Algunas ramas de roble importantes están caídas, pero sin daños estructurales. Todavía tenemos electricidad, aunque hay un poste de electricidad caído en la calle 10, justo al oeste de la avenida Myrtle. Por lo demás, todo está bien aquí. Today is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, il Poverello! One of my absolute favorites! St. Francis saw the splendor of God in all creatures great and small, rhetorically considering them "brothers" and "sisters" in creation. So, it is traditional to bless animals on the Feast of St. Francis. it was a great joy to bless all of the pet animals of our school children here at All Souls Catholic School! I loved watching how much the children loved their pets and how much their pets loved them. So precious!

The Diocese, the Central North Vicariate, and our parish are closely monitoring the progress of Tropical Storm Helene and its potential effects on our area. As a precaution, the Parish Office and School will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, September 26. If conditions improve, we plan to reopen on Friday, September 27, 2024. Please note that tonight's Faith Formation classes have also been canceled. Currently, daily Mass for both Thursday and Friday are still expected to take place, but we are continuing to monitor the situation and will make adjustments if necessary.
