RSCCD, along with Santa Ana College and Santiago Canyon College, joined colleges across Southern California at the Planning and Design Summit for the United Domestic Workers (UDW) Demonstration Project. The summit brought together community college professionals, union workers, and UDW representatives to collaborate on enhancing workforce development and educational opportunities.

The RSCCD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a recommendation to call for a $720M general obligation bond election on the November 2024 ballot. If approved by local voters this November, the funds from the bond measure will enable us to renovate our aging buildings, repair much-needed college infrastructure, upgrade computer technology, improve access for disabled students, construct new classrooms to relieve overcrowding, and expand programs at our colleges, District, and regional centers. Last week, RSCCD celebrated the achievements of the Class of 2024 at Santa Ana College and Santiago Canyon College commencement ceremonies! This year, over 10,400 degrees and certificates were awarded to students. In recognition of Community College Month, the Orange County Board of Supervisors recently honored the Rancho Santiago Community College District for its dedication to student success and community engagement. Board President Sal Tinajero, Board Member David Crockett, Vice Chancellor of Educational Services Enrique Perez, and Santa Ana College President Annebelle Nery represented RSCCD at this meeting, joining other leaders in the region.

Last night's Groundswell Gala celebrated the development of our next generation of leaders to build a more equitable future. As one of the event's co-sponsors, our student leaders from Santa Ana College and Santiago Canyon College joined several staff members at this community event.

At RSCCD, safety is a top priority under the leadership of Chief Dave Waters. The District's proactive approach is exemplified by officers undergoing intensive simulation training, showcasing RSCCD's strong commitment to enhancing campus safety. This dedication, combined with a focus on adapting to changing laws and procedures, ensures officers are equipped to navigate evolving safety challenges.

Yesterday, Chi-Chung Keung, RSCCD’s Chief Communications Officer, delivered a compelling presentation at the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) conference, highlighting effective strategies for new college presidents to communicate and navigate change.

Meet Francisco 'Frank' Prado, a true inspiration within RSCCD. Raised in El Modena near Santiago Canyon College, Frank's commitment to service and community was deeply influenced by his parents' participation in the Bracero Program, among other factors. Now serving as a Lieutenant at SCC, Frank embodies the District's values through his dedication to service and safety, striving to create a safer, more tightly knit RSCCD for everyone.

Discover the Hanna family's remarkable journey at RSCCD. John Hanna, an RSCCD Board of Trustees member since 1998, has seen six of his children shine as soccer players within the District--with five of them representing Santiago Canyon College and one at Santa Ana College. Throughout February, RSCCD celebrated Black History Month with a series of inspiring events and initiatives at Santa Ana College and Santiago Canyon College. From daily emails featuring Black history legends to captivating performances and workshops, both campuses honored the richness of Black culture and heritage. RSCCD's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusivity was evident as students, faculty, and staff came together to honor the past, celebrate the present, and shape a more inclusive future for all.

RSCCD Chancellor Marvin Martinez has been appointed by California Community Colleges State Chancellor, Sonya Christian to take the lead on the Apprenticeship Pathway Demonstration Project, which aims to create a roadmap for colleges to expand apprenticeships. Thanks to the success of programs at Santiago Canyon College, RSCCD is paving the way for more students to earn college credits while gaining invaluable on-the-job experience.

Last Friday, RSCCD celebrated the successful kick-off of the First Regional Child Development Teacher Apprenticeship Program—a groundbreaking 18-month registered apprenticeship initiative. Designed to offer comprehensive support, this program is actively shaping the future of child development education, leaving a lasting impact on the next generation of aspiring professionals! 🍎
