Tip Tuesday: If your child walks to school, it's crucial they are always visible to drivers and make eye contact before crossing the street. Teach them never to assume a driver sees them and to use sidewalks whenever available.

According to DrugFree.org Almost half (46%) of all high school students currently use addictive substances.

A few things have been known to curb drug use in children such as:

💬 Having conversations not only to understand your teen’s thoughts and feelings but also to talk about the dangers of drugs or alcohol.

🎾 Encourage your kids to take part in hobbies, sports, and clubs that interest them.

🚫 Help kids know how to turn down drugs if they are offered.

Great work by our OCSD - Lake Forest Police Services deputies! 👏

Monday morning patrols at Heroes Park led to a 9am with a special guest: an individual in possession of 20 syringes of he**in and m**h, and 9 warrants. Not the kind of baggage you want to carry!

Tip Tuesday: Throughout this month, our Tip Tuesdays will focus on back-to-school safety.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a SJPD Community Service Officer (CSO) and the critical injuries to another. Our hearts go out to the SJPD and the families of those involved. We pray for a swift and full recovery for the injured CSO.

Last night, two of our beloved SJPD Community Service Officers were struck by a vehicle and critically injured while conducting traffic control for an unrelated incident on Monterey Road. One of the two CSO's has tragically succumbed to his injuries. Our entire police family is heartbroken by this line of duty death, and our collective arms are around his family, friends, and teammates as we all cope with this painful incident.

We are also praying for our other CSO who suffered major injuries during the traffic collision and is still hospitalized. May she have a speedy recovery.

The driver who struck our fallen brother has been arrested and is suspected of driving under the influence. We are still actively investigating, and Acting Chief Paul Joseph will be providing more information on our fallen CSO and the investigation at a press conference tomorrow.

This is the first CSO line-of-duty death in SJPD history. We pray it will be the last.

We recently conducted an active shooter drill alongside school resource officers from 12 neighboring agencies. This year marked a milestone as we integrated cutting-edge technology from the Real Time Operations Center (RTOC) into the training. We were honored to have Dr. Stefan Bean, the new Superintendent for Orange County, Board of Education Director of Partnerships Dennis Cole, and RSM City Council Member Jerry Holloway join us as special dignitaries observing the drill.

A special thanks to Santa Margarita Catholic High School for allowing us to use their campus and to DOJ UASI - Urban Area Security Initiative for their sponsorship. Together, we're committed to ensuring safety and preparedness in our community.

Summer Safety Tip: Drive safe this summer. More children are out playing during the summer. Be alert for children playing in neighborhoods and residential areas. Young children may be more concerned about catching a ball that rolls into the street than watching for vehicles coming toward them.

Who let the dogs out? 🎶 Maybe it was OCSD - Yorba Linda Police Services! While our K9 team might not have enough room for all these pups, having them around was certainly a tail-wagging experience.

Are you bringing the kids to the Orange County Fair? It's important to plan! 🎡 Make sure your children know what to do if they get separated from you. Chat with them about finding an OC Sheriff Deputy or Fair official for help. It's also smart to have your contact info handy—consider writing your name and cell numbers on a tag in their pocket if they haven't memorized them yet.

Feel free to say hi to deputies you see walking around with your kids! It can help your child feel more comfortable approaching a deputy for help if they need to later on.

Summer Safety Tip: Keep your kids safe this summer! Young adults and teens may be home alone this summer from time to time. It is important to provide a list of phone numbers of neighbors, family and friends that your child can call in an emergency. Make sure your child knows how to dial 911 and when it is appropriate to do so.

We want to make sure it’s "Always a Good Time” at the OC Fair 🍊! So we are back in full force, ensuring everyone enjoys the fair safely. Look out for our foot patrols inside and bike teams in the parking areas. Come say hi if you see us (we probably have stickers for you)!

At the fair, we mostly handle calls related to public intoxication and lost children. Here are some safety tips for a fun and secure visit:
🍺 Enjoy alcohol responsibly—know your limit and plan for a sober ride. Stay hydrated!
👨‍👧‍👦 Talk to your kids about what to do if they get lost; point out deputies and fair staff for help.
🚙 Leave valuables at home; if you must bring them, keep them hidden and lock your car.
👀 Keep an eye on your phone, keys, and wallet.
☀️ And don't forget: Wear sunscreen!

Let's make this year's fair the best one yet!

Summer Safety Tip: Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles! Hyperthermia, which occurs when the body absorbs more heat than it can handle, can occur even on a mild day with temperatures in the 70s.

07/15/2024

According to the California Highway Patrol, nearly 30 percent of all Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related accident at some point in life. To avoid injuring yourself or others, never drink and drive. Always designate a sober driver whenever alcohol is being consumed.

To celebrate Collector Car Appreciation Day, we thought we'd share this throwback photo from 1970. We have to admit, the style of the old patrol vehicles was pretty awesome.
