Dance leaders! Let's unite for a transformative conversation. Let’s talk about how we navigate systems like schools to advocate for dance learning. How do we broaden and deepen the impact of dance in our communities beyond individual observations and experiences? How do we build a supportive network? I’m excited to co-host session with tomorrow for .luna Practitioner Exchange.

Tomorrow, Thursday 11/16 4:30-6pm

Let’s share our thoughts, our experience, and our questions! Your voice matters in shaping the future of dance!
REGISTER: Join us for a conversation exploring questions leaders in dance often ask: How can I navigate the “systems” of schools and agencies to advocate for dance learning, when they may not understand what I’m talking about? How do I broaden and deepen the impact of dance in my community beyond individual observations and experiences? How do I balance taking jobs because I need the funds, with work that is more aligned with my values? How do I build a community of allies, collaborators, and employees who believe in my vision? Bring your own questions too! Hosted by dance educator leaders Rosalina Macisco, Founder/Director of Santa Barbara Dance Institute and GiGi Tonye, Founder/Director of GiGi Tonye Arts & Fitness (Chicago).

Meet Lalia who flew in from Oregon to work with us for Goleta Unified School District summer program. ❤️ Lalia Montagne danced throughout her childhood as a way to find joy in challenging times. She received her BFA in Dance and began a varied and exciting career as dancer, choreographer, and teacher. Beginning with formal training in Modern Dance and Ballet, she continued the journey studying West African Dance with Mabiba Baegne, Modern/Traditional Hawaiian Dance with Patrick Makuakane, was greatly influenced by Bill Irwin, Sankai Juku, circus, world music and drumming, the theater and so much more. When her son began at a new school and she realized there was no dance or theater offered, she began teaching after school, creating a thriving and vibrant dance and theater program. Since that day she has taught hundreds of dance and theater classes to kids of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, created a summer arts adventure camp for 5 seasons, and cultivated a movement teaching style that encompasses all that she has experienced. “It has always been an honor and privilege to share my love of the transformative power and joy of dance and theater with kids. To see them become more courageous of mind and confident in their bodies, to accept themselves, and to share and create with one another gives me hope for the future. All while having lots of fun! “
