wow-- we closed out the fall with a spectacular day of the our show " The Magic Carpet" with dancers and musicians from 5 cultures-- dance and music from the First People with Navajo Dancer and Lakota singer, Bali masked dance, Brazilian music and capoeira, Argentinian Tango and Mexican Folklorico...Wow! at the Mello Center with 2 shows in their lovely theatre holding 750 seats...did i say the crowd went wild?!! I on the other hand had tears running down my face to see all this beauty from all around the world--inspiring children to open their heart and minds to how many ways there are to be beautiful--and right!

Celebrating our show JOY! going to Trinity College in Hartford, celebrating their 200th anniversary! More later!

🎉 🎉Congratulations to the Felton Library Friends who received the "Be The Difference Award" for all their great work supporting the Felton Branch Library and Felton Discovery Park 🎉 🎉

They have raised over $500k for the 9,000 sq.ft. branch and collaborate with the Santa Cruz County Parks Department for beautification and promotion of the Discovery Park. With monthly volunteer days and community-led learning programs, they make a positive impact on the Felton and San Lorenzo Valley communities. Congrats & Thank you!

Lorraine Kinnemon wows our classes with her mesmerizing Polynesian Dance skills. With roots in both Canada and Hawaii, she's now the founder of Te Hau Nui hula school in Santa Cruz.

And the excitement doesn't stop there! Mestre Papiba Godhino, an expert in Brazilian Capoeira, is bringing his skills to Santa Cruz schools. Having moved to the US at just 19 years old, he now plays with the band Sambada and runs Raizes do Brazil Capoeira school in Santa Cruz.

Be sure to catch Keith Cowans, a native of Santa Cruz county, leading the Company's Dance Around the World series. With his Cuban heritage and dance background, Keith is a force to be reckoned with in the final concerts. These artists are here to bring energy and excitement to our schools every day! 📚✨

Have you heard about the WIDE WIDE WORLD program in public schools? It's an amazing series that showcases world artists and their cultures to students of all grades! The best part? Each class in the series gets to meet a guest artist from a new country, how cool is that?! This school year (’22-23), 184 classes across 37 Santa Cruz classrooms are participating, woohoo!

Just last week, 4 grades were treated to an incredible Bharatanatyam Indian Dance class with the talented Izumi Sato. She may have been born in Japan and now calls America home, but did you know she actually studied for 7 years in India? How awesome is that! In Four Days, Missouri Plans to Execute Man With Innocence Claim Missouri is schedule to execute Leonard “Raheem” Taylor on Feb. 7, without reviewing all the evidence of his innocence.

The talented Rhonda Benin, Ruth Davies, Leon Joyce Jr., and Lorenzo Hawkins put on fantastic concerts at Alianza Bi-Lingual Elementary School and Pajaro Middle School! They perfectly showcased the magic of a band with Rhonda on vocals, Lorenzo on keyboards, Ruth on upright bass, and Leon on drums. Absolutely amazing!

The amazing Izumi Sato taught at our school residency program, The Wide, Wide, World, which brings artists from different countries each week to share their culture, language, and art form with students. This opens their minds and hearts to the diverse beauty of humanity.

Tandy Beal and Company is holding auditions on February 19th at the Tannery World Dance and Cultural Center. This award-winning program, ArtSmart, provides residencies in MPUSD and PVUSD schools, giving you the chance to share your love of the arts with the next generation. All new teachers will receive training and mentorship, so don't hesitate to spread the word about this fantastic opportunity!
