A great day today, celebrating another milestone at Willowbrook Park. The Playground is open! Special thanks to Capitola-Aptos Rotary Club who sponsored this feature in honor of Sgt. Gutzwiller. The tennis court resurfacing, memorial flagpole and playground are complete! Final construction of the memorial sitting area is underway and we’ll be sure to let you know when it’s done so we can gather to honor and celebrate it.

We’re excited to announce our new Nonprofit Surf Schools Pilot Program! This program grew out of the yearning to support all members of our community and ensure our coastal access points are truly open to all. Up to 3 nonprofit organizations will be awarded Municipal Access Partnership Permits to provide surf programming to our community.
We invite interested organizations to join us for an optional Application Workshop on October 24th at 2pm at the County Parks Office.
Applications are due November 29th at 3pm 🏄

Lisa Harvey-Duren lost her beloved daughter Kayla nearly five years ago to a genetic condition. During her short life, Kayla radiated joy and fought the odds to survive and thrive, Harvey-Duren writes. Kayla could have benefited from more inclusive playgrounds for children with special needs. Now, the City of Capitola is set to create one at Jade Street Park and nonprofit County Park Friends has launched a $1 million fundraising campaign to help cover the $1.82 million cost. Despite Americans with Disabilities Act regulations, most playgrounds are not accessible for kids with disabilities. “Can you simply imagine how discouraging that is for a child and their family?” Harvey-Duren says.

Our team had a chance to visit the photo wall exhibit that displays our Young Outdoor Leaders in action, creating culturally significant artwork and celebrating their own Hispanic heritage.
The exhibit is displayed on the first floor of the Santa Cruz County Building (701 Ocean Avenue)
Nuestro equipo tuvo la oportunidad de visitar la exhibición fotográfica que muestra a nuestros Jóvenes Líderes al Aire Libre en acción, creando obras de arte culturalmente significativas y celebrando su propia herencia hispana.
