⏰Time: 11:15 AM to 12:30 PM PST
📍Location: Hybrid Event

Despite many ongoing efforts to create more inclusive environments for historically marginalized identities, Black women continue to encounter hostile environments in both academic and professional spaces; often driving them out. This workshop will name and define the common challenges that Black women face in these institutions. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to engage in critical dialogue, utilizing personal narratives, while also strategizing ways to uplift and stand alongside Black women.

Join us as we learn from Dr. Marissiko Wheaton-Greer who received her A.A. from Santa Monica College and later earned her B.A. in Social Ecology from the University of California, Irvine. Following her undergraduate studies, she attained her M.A. in Higher Education/Student Personnel Administration from New York University. During her career as a practitioner in higher education, she has committed the majority of her academic career deepening her knowledge and understanding of identity, critical consciousness building, and activism. In 2019, she completed her Ph.D in Urban Education Policy at the University of Southern California. Marissiko’s research and practice specialize in equity-oriented leadership, identity development, and organizational change. Marissiko is currently the Assistant Dean and Director of Scripps Community of Resources and Empowerment (SCORE) at Scripps College — a women’s college in Claremont, California. In her role, she serves on the Chief Diversity Officer team while overseeing the campus equity center where she manages all diversity, equity and inclusion programmatic efforts on campus.
