RAND Corporation president and CEO Jason Matheny just told our graduates: “During your time at Pardee RAND, you've learned from RAND experts and experienced firsthand the importance of rigorous analysis, a commitment to objectivity, and an ability to think logically from first principles under immense pressure.

“With your skills, you’re able to place objectivity above opinion, rely on data rather than perception, and design wise policies to take on the world’s biggest challenges.

“We don't have a blueprint for what the next 5, 10, or 50 years will bring. But I have confidence that you're the people for the job. Congratulations!”

What Would It Take to Close America's Black-White Wealth Gap? 06/19/2024

In honor of , we're proud to share last year's excellent research by professor Jonathan Welburn, alum Pedro Nascimento de Lima, and student Jonathan Lamb. https://bit.ly/4eyfTZ9

What Would It Take to Close America's Black-White Wealth Gap? White Americans hold ten times more total wealth than Black Americans, a disparity that has worsened in recent decades. RAND researchers modeled wealth across millions of households and tested several funding scenarios to see which could most effectively close the gap.

Two of the distinctive value propositions of being a Pardee RAND Graduate School student include our school's strong connections to academic partners, and our extensive network of Pardee RAND alumni in the policymaking community. One enterprising student had the opportunity to tap into both last summer!

Thomas Van Bibber (cohort '22) leveraged Pardee RAND’s relationship with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to conduct research for their Center for Global Security Research, which he then shared at a conference outside Washington D.C. While at the conference, Thomas was able to connect in-person with his Pardee RAND Alumni Mentor, Nicholas Martin (cohort '15). Thomas shared his experience with us, and I look forward to sharing more such features with you throughout 2024.

Crime-Free Housing Policies Increase Evictions in Minority and Low-Income Neighborhoods, but Do Not Lead to Reductions in Crime 11/28/2023

Fantastic collaboration among several students and RAND researchers, with Max Griswold (cohort ‘18) as the lead author! Kudos, Max!

Crime-Free Housing Policies Increase Evictions in Minority and Low-Income Neighborhoods, but Do Not Lead to Reductions in Crime Policies that encourage landlords to evict tenants who have involvement with the criminal justice system do not appear to reduce crime, while increasing evictions among Black residents and people with lower incomes.

We Aren't Helpless in the Face of Increasing Fires and Smoke 07/03/2023

In honor of National Wildland Firefighter Day, we want to give a shout-out (and thanks) to student Jay Balagna for his work in the field as well as his research and outreach here at Pardee RAND and RAND.

We Aren't Helpless in the Face of Increasing Fires and Smoke Modernizing, better funding, and expanding wildland firefighting forces in North America won't make fires or smoke magically disappear. A massive paradigm shift is necessary. But it's clear something needs to happen immediately too.
