Chances for Children
The vision of C4C is to work thru local pastors to move communities from survival to sustainability.
✨ A decade ago this month, Gerrit Talvitie and Elizabeth Weaver embarked on a life-changing journey to Haiti with Gerrit’s father, Mark Talvitie. Little did they know, their trip would not only deepen their bond but also spark a lifelong commitment to our mission at Chances for Children.
During that unforgettable trip, Gerrit and Elizabeth got engaged in the heart of Haiti, marking the beginning of their incredible journey as long-term supporters of C4C. Since then, they’ve continued to pour their hearts into our ministry—volunteering at events, championing our programs, and inspiring others to get involved.
We’re especially grateful to Mark Talvitie, who has taken his dedication to the next level by serving on our Board of Directors.
Thank you, Gerrit, Elizabeth, and Mark, for your unwavering support and the lasting impact you’ve made in Haiti! 🇭🇹💙

Todd's compassion, hard work, and passion for his role make him an invaluable part of our team. We are incredibly grateful to have him with us at C4C.

[3 Sweet Additions] ✨ There will come a day when there will be no more crying and no more hunger, but until then, Chances for Children remains committed to caring for those most vulnerable. We have admitted 3 infants into our care in the hopes of a better quality of life found through adoption.
Some adoption processes in Haiti are taking 5-6 years and it is during this time period that child sponsorships are vital to the basic care of these children.
Would you consider being a part of a child's forever story?
Please email [email protected] with any questions about what child sponsorships can do in the life of one of these little ones.

🌱 Life-giving trees! We're thrilled to share that our first home-grown trees have been distributed to our farmers in Southeast Haiti! Earlier this year, we built a greenhouse in Kenscoff and started growing mango and avocado trees from seed. In just a few years, these trees will begin bearing fruit, boosting food security for our families and providing a sustainable source of income. 🌳

🌍 **A Smile Can Change a Life** 🦷
Imagine living in a place where a simple toothache can turn into a life-threatening issue because there’s no dentist nearby. For too many children in Haiti, this is a reality. But we’re determined to change that.
At Chances for Children, we’re not just offering dental care—we’re offering hope.
This work is deeply personal to us because we know the impact it has on every child we help. But we can’t do it alone.
✨ **You can help us make an even bigger difference.** Whether by donating, or simply spreading the word, your support means the world.
Thank you for helping us bring smiles back to those who need it most. 💙

🚀 Exciting Update! 🚀 A few weeks ago, our two microloan leaders traveled to the South to visit all of our microloan recipients. We are thrilled with the valuable information they gathered on the strengths, weaknesses, changes, and challenges each participant is facing after receiving their loan.
It was a LONG few days for these two young men, but the insights they gained are invaluable. This information will help us continue to effectively support our participants.
Stay tuned over the next few weeks as we share some of the successes and challenges of these hardworking families. This program is changing not only the lives of the participants but also their entire families.
🌟 🌟 A few weeks ago, we had the joy of sharing about the work we're doing in Haiti with the kids and adults at Highlands' Church VBX. It was amazing to watch these kids learn about the lives of children in another part of the world who are much less fortunate than they are. They decided to step up and give incredibly generously!
We are so grateful for all the ways that Highlands Church partners with us and supports our mission. 🙏
P.S. If your church does any sort of VBS or kids camp, please reach out to us! We have some exciting ways to partner with you! 💌

A huge shoutout to Feed My Starving Children, Mission of Hope, and Convoy of Hope! They have partnered with Chances for Children’s feeding program to help provide food to 8,800 children throughout Haiti.
Feed My Starving Children has been an invaluable partner with Chances for Children since 2008, supplying us with the MannaPacks essential for nourishing children in our 15 village feeding programs. These MannaPacks are packed with protein, carbohydrates, and vital nutrients. We share their belief that hope begins with nutritious food to help children grow, thrive, and reach their full potential.
We’re also deeply grateful to Mission of Hope and Convoy of Hope for their incredible support in getting a container of 272,000 MannaPacks into Cap Haitien, Haiti, which will provide food to our northern feeding programs for almost six months. Their vision aligns perfectly with ours, focusing on meeting basic needs and fostering sustainability for families in Haiti.
In these challenging times, with port closures and unsafe transportation, we’re honored to join forces toward a shared goal: providing nutritious meals for the children of Haiti.
Please drop a 👏 below to help us thank these wonderful and faithful partners of ours.

🥰TEACHER APPRECIATION POST: 📚 The 27 teachers who work in the five rural schools sponsored by Chances for Children are incredibly resourceful, resilient, and creative teachers. ✨ Most of them work with multiple age children in their grade levels because children join schools at different ages and with little preparation for academics. They work in simple cinder block buildings, sometimes with dirt floors, and few resources other than a chalkboard for them to write on while students have paper and pencil. They commute to work on foot because they live locally or they travel from another neighborhood however they can, often at serious risk to their own safety, given the current disruptions in Haitian life.🙏🏽
Despite all of those challenges, our teachers create success year after year of school. Students come to school regularly, both because they and their families know the long term benefits of education AND because their teachers give them thoughtful and inspiring reasons to be there. AND at the end of the school year, when national exams are given at each grade levels, the hard work on both sides shines. Our students averaged over 93% on their national exams in schools that were able to report the information to us! We are so grateful for the work they do, made possible by C4C sponsors providing the funds to support schools and students.
Please take a minute to send a prayer of thanks for the work our teachers do, and if you want to send a note of thanks to them, you can send the "note" in an email to [email protected] and we will make sure our teachers all receive it.
Thank you all!

Thankfully our Zel Haiti team has remained safe and has continued to be able to work despite the circumstances. Thank you for your orders, encouragement and support! 🙏🏽We are so thankful that more and more local markets are opening up for us to purchase supplies and that the airports are open so we can ship all the amazing items our team has been working on. They have been working hard creating new pieces and shipping orders this summer 🙌. With limited supplies we have had to be creative with new designs but we are pretty excited how they are turning out 😍.

We look forward to celebrating with you and making a lasting impact together!
🌟 🌟 Reflecting on our unforgettable trips to Haiti, we at Chances for Children can’t wait to bring teams back again. The bonds we formed, the lives touched, and the love we shared with the incredible Haitian community are memories we hold close to our hearts. 💙🇭🇹
Going to Haiti helped truly allow people to see the need and be moved to action. Now, we rely on sharing stories, conversations, and prayers. Though we miss the opportunity to send teams to serve and love on the Haitians in person right now, our commitment remains unwavering. Until then, your support is allowing us to continue helping and serving countless families and children throughout the country. Through feeding programs, village schools, child sponsorship, women’s empowerment, medical care, and more, we are making a difference together. 🙏💙
We also pray for healing and safety for Haiti, trusting that brighter days are ahead for this resilient nation.
Thank you for your continued support. Please share and pray for more to come alongside us and support this cause that we feel undeniably called to help.

🌍 "As long as poverty, injustice, and gross inequality persist in our world, none of us can truly rest." - Nelson Mandela
Despite the challenging circumstances, all of our programs continue to run, and we are grateful for God's endless provision. While we experience both heartbreak and success, we know our efforts are well worth it. Hearing about the lives being touched and transformed through our work encourages us to keep pushing and fighting.
Thank you for being on this journey with us, and for your continuous encouragement and support! 💙
What a joy it is to see our brothers and sisters in Haiti worshipping God and praying for healing and salvation throughout their country. People from all over are traveling to Kenscoff to join in worship, and lives are being transformed. Our church in Kenscoff is in the midst of a 50-day revival, culminating in a HUGE celebration on August 11th.
Despite the challenges, we can see God moving powerfully in Haiti.

Please join us in thanking God for making a way for Z to be united with his forever family in North Carolina.
Z left the creche on an early Sunday morning and traveled to Miami with an es**rt to meet his mom and dad. Z feels things deeply and most of the time is pretty quiet, but the finality of this goodbye gave him courage to express his gratitude completely to all the nannies and staff that have helped him grow since his admission in 2019. Not one act of kindness was forgotten.
Please leave a comment of encouragement for Z and his new family. There will be lots of adjustments happening in the coming days and weeks.
