The Office of Merit Scholarships, Fellowships & Awards at the University of Washington works with UW undergraduates to develop the tools and personal insights necessary to match their goals with local and national merit-based scholarship opportunities.
Five UW undergraduates have been honored as Goldwater Scholars by the Goldwater Foundation, marking 2023 as the first time five students from the UW were named. This year’s UW Goldwater Scholars are Abigail Burtner, Jan Buzek, Nuria Alina Chandra, Meg Takezawa and Peter Yu. Each are involved in undergraduate research projects with faculty including a range of topics such as transportation engineering, immunology, cryptology and chronic pain.
The Goldwater Foundation honors undergraduate students with scholarships of $7500 for showing exceptional academic promise pursuing research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering. The Goldwater Foundation announced 413 new scholarships awarded for the 2023 competition. Since its first award in 1989, the Foundation crossed the 10,000 threshold this year, naming its 10,283rd Scholar!

The Sea Mar Community Health Centers Scholarships are now open!
Sea Mar will be awarding $1,000 scholarships to students who are of migrant or seasonal farm worker backgrounds. Sea Mar also offers a $2,500 scholarship to students who demonstrate a history of advocacy, responsibility, accountability, and perseverance.
Applications are posted on https://www.seamar.org/scholarships.html and the deadline is April 30, 2023.
The UW Alumni Reunion and Class Gifts Scholarships are sponsored by the UW alumni classes of 1954, 1957, and 1962 in honor of their 50th class reunions, the UW 50th Reunion Student Assistance Fund, the UW Class of 1955 Endowment Community Service Award and the UW Class of 2016, Impact and Diversity Endowed Scholarship. Scholarships are sponsored by alumni to financially support hardworking undergrads.

The Gilman Scholarship Program awards undergraduate students with limited financial means to study or intern abroad up to $5000, with a chance receive a Critical Language Need Award of up to $8000

Congratulations to our UW Fulbright semi-finalists! 🐾
29 UW students and alumni (undergraduate seniors, graduate students, and alumni, including those from Seattle, Bothell, and Tacoma campuses) have been recommended as semi-finalists for Fulbright US Student Student Program funding for 2023-24, to support either independent research projects, graduate-level study, or English Teaching Assistantship positions in 21 different countries.

Are you an undergrad interested in pursuing a career in the international affairs?
The Charles B. Rangel Summer Enrichment Program is a six-week summer program designed to provide undergraduate students with a deeper appreciation of current issues and trends in international affairs, a greater understanding of career opportunities in international affairs, and the enhanced knowledge and skills to pursue such careers.
Scholars have the chance to meet with a wide range of professionals from government and non-governmental organizations who can talk about diverse international policy issues and career options.
The Program covers the costs for tuition, travel, housing, and two meals per day. It also provides a stipend of $3,300.

NIH Undergraduate Scholarship application open now!
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undergraduate Scholarship Program (UGSP) offers competitive scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral, and social science health-related research. The program offers:
- Scholarship support
- Paid research training at the NIH during the summer
- Paid employment and training at the NIH after graduation
The scholar is awarded up to $20,000 per academic year.
