Columbia City Gallery
We are located in Columbia City, Seattle and represent local artists working in all media.
According to Smithsonian Magazine, "Trees share water and nutrients through the networks, and also use them to communicate. They send distress signals about drought and disease, for example, or insect attacks, and other trees alter their behavior when they receive these messages. Scientists call these mycorrhizal networks." We think the trees look like they're communicating in Beth Herrild's pieces Society of Trees, Church in the Forest, & Imaging, up now in the gallery!
How lovely to place not one, not two, but THREE red SOLD dots đ´ beside .aaart Couch Series. This beautiful couple purchased Lunaâs fabulous trio!
Columbia City Gallery is dedicated to uplifting underrepresented, emerging local artistsThe current show, Artistic Disruption, was curated in partnership with and will be on display through July 7.
Ever wonder what it means when an artist says their medium is "mixed media"? It's a little confusing. Technically the term mixed media just means that the artist has combined more than one artistic medium (ie: oil paint, acrylic paint, watercolor, photography, mono printing, collage, clay....) in the making of a single piece of art. At the gallery right now we have several artists with mixed media pieces. For instance, Abbie Birmingham's piece, Three Pots is both Pastel & Watercolor. Her piece above that one, titled Perhaps, is a combination of collograph printing, watercolor, and pen & ink. Kate Harkins will tell you that in her pieces, (such as Travels Of Veronica & Ruby And George At Night up now in the gallery) she paints with acrylic paint, often collages, and uses all kinds of traditional & non traditional materials for mark making, including sometimes even nail polish!
If this doesn't just say summer, I don't know what does! Member artist, Thoa Nguyen, really captured the feeling âď¸

These two pieces by the same artist are part of our Community Exhibit, Artistic Disruptions. They're in the front left of the gallery as you walk in - thus the reflections from the windows. This is what the artist said about the first piece "I wanted this artwork to be complex and mean many different things, but mainly, I wanted it to portray emotion, in a complicated and messy way. " Wow, these youth are so wise.
