UPDATE: 7/10/24, 23:30 PM: We just spoke with the swim lesson volunteers. They said that the positions were filled on a first-call, first-served basis. They have started returning calls to swimmers who secured one of the 40 spots, so please answer or return missed calls from (985) 707-7196. The New Orleans Campaign for Grade-Level Reading hosted a book drive at the last UWSELA staff meeting, and we are thankful to everyone who donated! We gave these books to Rainbow Child Care Center in St. Tammany Parish, which will help students develop communication skills, improve their grammar, and encourage thought and imagination. Rebuild Slidell - Get Help Rebuilding After A Storm Rebuild Slidell is a group of Slidell citizens dedicated to helping their fellow neighbors rebuild and recover from storm damage.

Rainbow's estimate for the restoration of power is Saturday at 11pm. We'll unfortunately be closed tomorrow and look forward to welcoming our babies back on Monday! Please check in with us and let us know if you have any special needs right now.

4/14/24 3:00 p.m. Update:

All schools will be open following a regular schedule Monday, April 15th.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of our STPPS team, volunteers, law enforcement, parish officials and everyone else over the weekend, we were able to make necessary repairs to allow students to safely return to all 26 schools on the east side of the parish Monday.

As our community continues to recover, our team will be there to support students and families impacted by the storm. Please reach out to your school if your child needs assistance or mental health support.

Thank you for your resilience and understanding as we navigated this situation in the best interest of our students. The kindness and teamwork of everyone is greatly appreciated.

4/11/24 4:45 p.m. Update:

On Friday, April 12th schools will be open for campuses that are ready for students to return. Schools that need additional repairs or do not have electricity will remain closed. The schools that will remain closed are in our Northshore, Pearl River, Salmen, and Slidell learning communities and include the following:

We are continuing repairs and hope to have electricity restored to all schools soon. Updates about Monday will be provided on Sunday through websites, robocalls and social media. Employees of schools that are closed will be contacted directly with information.

4/11/24 12:35 p.m. Update:

Our team is working to clean and repair damage on many of our campuses on the east side of the parish. Our biggest obstacle is power outages and extensive downed power lines, but crews are working hard to restore electricity and progress is being made. Schools on the west side of the parish, thankfully, have minimal damage so our resources are focused on the hardest hit areas. Thank you to our employees, volunteers, law enforcement, parish officials and everyone who is working incredibly hard to reopen our schools and begin the process of rebuilding our community. We want to get our students back in school as soon as possible, but we have to make sure our campuses are safe. We will continue to evaluate the situation throughout the day and provide an update later this afternoon about Friday through robocall, on our websites, and social media. Our thoughts go out to our employees, students, families and community who were impacted by this storm. Thank you for your understanding and support of our STPPS team.

4/10/24 5:27 p.m. Update:

All STPPS schools and support sites will remain closed on Thursday, April 11th. District supervisors and school principals will report to work.

At this time, we are still in the process of evaluating our school buildings. We have downed trees and limbs on numerous campuses and there is damage on many surrounding streets. Many schools and areas of our parish are still without power and parishwide resources are helping the hardest hit areas to recover.

We have made this decision in close coordination with the St. Tammany Office of Emergency Preparedness and Parish Officials. Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this storm. Please know we will continue to prioritize the safety of our students and employees as we make these difficult decisions.

Due to inclement weather, Rainbow Child Care will be closed tomorrow April 10th. We follow St. Tammany Parish Schools when it comes to making decisions about the weather. Cleco is working on a power outage in our area. The Center is currently without power. Children had lunch before the power went out and are napping. Cleco has estimated the time of repair to be 1:15pm. If you'd like to pick up your child early, please feel free to do so. The phone system is down. Any updates will be posted here. We just wanted to make sure that everyone was aware of the outage.

Rainbow Child Care will be closed Monday July 17th so that our Team may be able to attend the burial of Jennifer Wood.
