Although Summer doesn't officially start until June 20th, Mother Nature is getting a head-start. Here are some tips to help prevent heat stress:

Stay cool
Stay in an air-conditioned area, or if you don't have air conditioning, go to a public building or shopping mall. You can also take a cool shower or bath, or use a fan or spray bottle to keep your skin wet.

Stay hydrated
Drink plenty of fluids, like water, juice, and sports drinks, before you feel thirsty. Sweating removes salt and minerals from your body, so it's especially important to drink fluids if you're outdoors or exercising. Avoid drinks with caffeine, alcohol, or lots of sugar.

Wear light clothing
Choose loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing. You can also wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face from the sun.

Limit sun exposure
Try to stay indoors as much as possible, and if you must be outside, limit your activity to the morning or evening. You can also rest often in shady areas.

Eat regularly
Eat well-balanced, light meals, and avoid hot and heavy meals.

Take care of pets
If your pets are outside, make sure they have access to shade and plenty of cool water. Asphalt and dark pavement can be very hot for their feet.

Sharing for Collierville #152 Masonic Lodge

Collierville #152 Masonic Lodge F&AM invites all first responders to join us! This is just an example of things we do for our community. So if you know of a first responder (police officer, fire fighter, ems, paramedic, sheriffs deputy) in the area, please let them know that we will be having dinner ready at 6pm on June 10th at the lodge. Feel free to come in and sit down or we can make your plate to go. We look forward to serving as many as possible and hope to see you soon!

We would like to thank the Hospital Wing staff for coming out last night and providing training on setting up a Landing Zone (LZ). Living is a rural community provides a peaceful life that we've come to enjoy. However, when a medical emergency arises and you need to be transported as quick as possible to the closest hospital, air transport is often required. Here in Fayette County, we just call for "The Wing" to get them in route.

Extrication of victims after automobile accidents has become one of the most important life saving functions of fire department personnel. Rescuers are responsible for simultaneously setting up a safe working area, evaluating possible hazards, and treating the victims’ injuries. The process is done with tools, equipment, and precise skills to minimize any further injuries to the occupants. This is why regular training is so important.

Tonight the Fayette County Fire Department and Oakland Fire Department participated in a joint extrication training exercise under the direction of Oakland Fire Chief, Steve Walls.
