We are receiving many worried calls right now. Yes, in California acupuncture has been defined as part of essential medicine since 2012. In recognition of the needs we serve, we will currently remain open but with significantly reduced hours to support the efforts of our community to stay at home. We ask you to postpone non-pressing appointments.
We know that to many of you acupuncture is vital to maintaining your health and lower pain levels. We appreciate that this is a stressful time. We know that each of you are doing your best to keep yourselves healthy and manage your pain levels, stress and anxiety to avoid going into crisis and putting extra strain on our county’s emergency medical services. We are still here for you and you can make an appointment within our modified schedule if you feel yourself going into crisis without your therapy.
If you are 65 years old or older and/or you suffer from a heart or lung disease, diabetes or are immunocompromised it is the safest route to shelter in place for the time being unless interrupting your acupuncture therapy would bring you great distress.
Our cancer therapy support and pregnancy support programs have been suspended at this time. Our Qigong program will go virtual. If you are in either of our suspended programs you will receive a call from us to check in soon. Please feel free to reach out if we haven’t already talked.
Our current plan is to keep the clinic open 2 days a week. For the health and safety of all our patients we can see you only after a phone appointment prescreening you for signs of sickness or fever, community exposure or travel in the last 3 weeks.
Temporarily we had to remove the online booking possibility. You can still cancel your appointment by clicking on the link on the confirmation email you get from us. We are not accepting walk-ins at this time. If you would like to schedule an appointment please contact us with your name and phone number and we will call you back. You are welcome to email, text or call us anytime if you have any questions. We will be checking messages at the clinic regularly.
Warmly,
Barbara Briner DAOM, LAc

Due to Governor Newsom’s state wide order, Sierra Acupuncture will be closed today.
We are in communication with local health officials to assess how best to proceed and serve the community.
Please check in for updates.
You are welcome to email or text us with any questions at any time.
Stay safe, remember take care of yourself and each other. We will get through this together.
We are open this week for our patients that do not show signs of illness and where acupuncture therapy is a significant factor in management of health and pain.
Please know we have adjusted our clinic settings to adhere or exceed the recommendations from the CDC and California Department of Public Health. Our clinic has polices in place to maintain and support social distancing, including limiting our waiting room now to a maximum of three people at any given time, as well as continuing enhanced hygiene polices. In addition, we are happy to work with your individual health needs and concerns. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
We currently plan to be open for our usual hours, Tuesday through Friday, but will adjust as the situation changes.
We are always happy to talk to you, please contact us if you have any questions.
We are a strong and vibrant community. We will get through this together. Take care of yourself. Take care of each other,
Sincerely,

Dear Friends,
We would like to share some precautions our clinic is taking to support you and keep our community healthy in these times of increased concern about the spread of the Coronavirus.
What Our Clinic Is Doing:
• If you have reason to feel vulnerable please tell us and we will get you directly into your treatment room or into a separate waiting area.
• We are asking that if you have a fever, cough or feel you might be getting sick, please stay at home until your symptoms are gone.
• We continue to use safe needle technic, following standard medical safety policies and OSHA recommendations.
• We have implemented and increased protocols to disinfect surfaces such as door k***s, reception counters (etc.) multiple times a day.
• There is hand sanitizer available for use at the reception area.
• As a preventive measure we ask you to please wash or disinfect your hands before and after treatments.
• For our Community Clinic patients: there will be table paper over the beds and pillows. Temporarily there will be no more shared blankets on the shelf we will currently only use heat lamps. If you would like a fuzzy blanket for additional comfort you are welcome to bring your personal clean ones from home. For a while there will also be a limited supply available for purchase in the clinic that you may take home with you after your treatment.
• Thank you for understanding and patience as we all work together to keep you and our community as safe and healthy as possible.
What Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine can do to support your health:
• There are numerous studies that show that acupuncture can strengthen the immune system and immune response. It is beneficial to receive acupuncture to strengthen your overall health.
• Studies also show that certain herbal formulas have distinct anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. It is beneficial to add certain herbs to your treatment regiment if you feel you are especially vulnerable or may have had increased exposure. We have a limited stock of these herbal remedies available for purchase, but please keep in mind that we would like to have them available for the most vulnerable among us.

Happy New Year!
Find out more about 2020, year of the Rat.
January 25, 2020 is the start of the Chinese Year of the White Metal Rat. Lilian Pearl Bridges, a Feng-Shui Master and respected lecturer on Traditional Chinese Medicine, said:
“The Rat is the first animal in the Chinese Zodiac system and this year is the beginning of a completely new 12-year and 60-year cycle and is therefore considered the beginning of a new era. It Is also the start of another decade, all of which makes it an especially important year for new beginnings and new possibilities. It is time to bring out new ideas, new plans and say yes to new opportunities. It is a good year for reinvention and starting over. “
The Rat is known to symbolize wealth and fertility coupled with understated bravery and ethical righteousness. It calls for living our daily lives with wit and charm, alertness and flexibility. This year will help us to find our truths, and with patience, steadfast work and diligence, it will help us make progress in many facets of our lives.
2020 can also be the year of our inner hero. We are invited to celebrate the completion of all that has passed, to savor what was beautiful and full as we release and let go of that which is no more. With great courage, the hero in us travels into the realms of our body’s intuitive and unconsciously held memories.
As we do so we also encounter memories that speak of shame and loss and lack, of being left cold and lonely, of times when we felt wronged, vulnerable, naked and weak, as well as memories of when we were consumed by spite, mercilessness and greed.
At this time we bravely look to that which we did not want to see, those exiled feelings and suppressed memories which may have been with us for many decades, that have congealed into pains and body stagnation which slowly muted and strangled our life force, suppressed our inspiration and doused happiness.
In the traditional Chinese understanding the Rat is seen mostly positive as a successful and smart food gatherer, a symbol for youth and rejuvenation.
The White Yang Metal of this year’s Rat can be likened in ability and strength to a sword wielding warrior-hero. It takes many years to master the sword. So 2020 will be a good year for that warrior in us, who is now older and experienced, to find the courage to journey into ourselves, our body, our subconscious worlds, all the way into those dark caves of petrified exiled feelings, and allow ourselves to see it all, to feel it all, to self reflect and embrace it all, the good and the bad.
We honor and grieve the past and then, as we acknowledge that what is, and let go of what is no more, step lightly forward and in doing so, reconnect to that ever-young flow of our life force, inspiration and happiness that brings us all together.
Happy Chinese New Year to you!
