REMINDER! This event is happening TOMORROW!

In an effort to further prepare for the growth coming to Spartanburg County and the influx of upcoming road projects, including the voter-approved Capital Penny Projects, we want to ensure that we have the manpower needed to get these important jobs done.

Now is the time to get involved in the construction industry, play a role in our County's history, and impact every person who lives in or travels through Spartanburg County.

While the Capital Penny Projects will create better roads, they also create job opportunities for our residents, and we're excited about that.

We hope to see you there!

HEADS UP, DRIVERS! The recent heavy rains caused damage to a culvert on Old John Dodd Road and, for safety reasons, we have closed this section of the road (just south of Shadow Dance Lane).

We are actively working on a repair, but we anticipate the road will be closed at least until the end of the calendar year. We will be sure to provide updates when they are available.

GOOD NEWS, DRIVERS! The Spartanburg County Transportation Committee (CTC) has accepted a bid for the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Berry Shoals Road and Apple Valley Road. Construction is expected to begin on Thursday, August 29th.

There are no plans to detour Berry Shoals Road during construction, and there is only a one-month detour planned on Apple Valley Road (weather permitting). Drivers can expect some delays that will be controlled by flagging operations for the temporary closure of one lane while construction takes place on the other lane, but these delays should be short. We believe the final product will be worth the short inconvenience.

This intersection has been on our list for some time now, due to safety concerns, and we are excited that the construction phase is finally here. Just in the two years since we began designing this project, due in part to the tremendous growth in the area, this intersection has experienced 43 crashes. We are looking forward to providing a safer route for our drivers.

We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the many utility providers in the area who have been very cooperative in the relocation of their properties to facilitate the construction of this much-needed project.

HEADS UP, DRIVERS! Hickory Hill Road will be closed beginning next week for the construction of two new large culverts that will replace the current ones. Construction is expected to last about two months, weather permitting.

Want to hear about an incredible accomplishment? This week, our Roads & Bridges Manager Johnny Ravan celebrated his 50th anniversary (yes, 50 YEARS!) with Spartanburg County! We are so lucky to have him!

Johnny has been the County's Roads & Bridges Manager since 2005.

He started his career with us when he was 19 years old and his job was to patch potholes. He quickly learned how to operate the first backhoe the County ever had (and has even won some regional and state awards for his skills!). In 1981, Johnny was transferred to the Bridge Crew where he learned how to operate just about every other piece of equipment our team owned, working to replace wooden bridges with concrete; and it didn't take long for Johnny to be promoted to Bridge Crew Supervisor. To this day, Johnny says he's still learning new things at work.

When asked what he likes most about his job, Johnny said "I like everything about my job - I always have. Things aren't always 'Peaches and Cream,' but that's what makes it fun working here. It never gets boring."

He added "We have always had quality employees, with a lot of experience, who work together to get the job done, no matter what it takes. And that's what keeps me coming in every day."

When he's not working, Johnny says he enjoys spending time with his wife and fishing.

Thank you so much for your 50 years of dedicated service to Spartanburg County, Johnny Ravan! We truly wouldn't be the same without you!

Please help us congratulate Johnny on this impressive milestone!

🚨 Please help if you can!

🚨 URGENT HELP NEEDED 🚨
Our shelter is FULL! We have no more kennels for large dogs, even after doubling up where we can. All of our boarding kennels for shelter dog emergency housing are also full. As a government shelter, we can't turn away dogs in need, but we need YOUR help to make space and save lives.

We're participating in the Bissell Empty the Shelters event and while we don't need our shelter completely empty, we urgently need at least 20 large dogs to leave today so we can continue operating.

Here's how you can help today:
1. Adopt: Open your heart and home to a new furry friend.
2. Foster: Temporarily care for a dog to free up space in the shelter.
3. Share: Spread the word to help us find homes for these wonderful dogs.

Please do not bring large dogs to the shelter today. We simply have no room left and need to focus on finding homes for the dogs already in our care.

Visit us today at 328 Furman Hall Road, Greenville, SC 29609. Your support is crucial and can make a life-saving difference. Thank you for your support! 🐾❤️

HAPPY UPDATE AHEAD: You may remember, back in April, 47 dogs were rescued from a home in Spartanburg County due to poor living conditions.

We are thrilled to share with you a happy ending for one of those dogs who was rescued.

Meet adorable miniature poodle "Sir Hugo Pepe le Poodle" or "Hugo" for short (formerly known as #19 in the case).

According to Hugo's new owner, he is a resilient boy and is adjusting quite nicely to his new life.

Hugo's owner says he is "exuberant, smart, curious and super loving." He also LOVES snuggling.

We are so happy Hugo found his fur-ever home!

We want to thank our hardworking Animal Control Officers and our friends at Greenville County Animal Care for their assistance in this case and for taking good care of Hugo before he was adopted.
