Throwback Thursday: People's Park viewed from Hamblen Conservation Area in 1926 and today. The 3,000-foot long, 160-foot high Union Pacific Railroad trestle for which High Bridge Park was named spanned across the park from 1914 to 1979. You can still see the abutments for this "high bridge" alongside the Sandifur Bridge today.

Fun Fact: Originally (and technically still) part of High Bridge Park, People’s Park got its name during the Expo ’74 Worlds Fair when it became a popular camping area for young travelers.

Nicely done, City of Spokane Fire Department! 👏👏👏

At 12:34 a.m. on July 4, 2024, the Spokane Fire Department's Technical Rescue Team was dispatched to the north end of the Howard Street Bridge, where a young adult female was reportedly on the rocks by the river's edge. Rescuers used the ladder truck's aerial device as a high-point anchor for a rope system to lower a rescuer to the victim. The uninjured woman was safely retrieved at 1:10 a.m. without further medical interventions necessary.
