Celebrating a great Campaign!
Im the luckiest! Just look at this HUG! I LOST the School Board race! Gosh!! I know!! It’s disappointing- But It was still such a great night. And a great run! We celebrated and I feel the tinge of victory for everything we accomplished, for every person I met, for sounding the trumpet and casting light into dark corners. I already know I was the girl for the job. I felt so much support, thank you for all your support and love, I can’t wait to see what God has in store for me next!! ❤️🙌🏼
ONE MORE DAY!!!
Less than 48 hours to go! After achieving a degree in Biology, I got married and started my family. We made sacrifices for me to stay home and raise our children. I can take a stand with our children’s best interests because I am someone who has always sought to make life better for kids. As I raised my family I have consistently volunteered throughout the schools and community.
My other professional and volunteer activities include Life Coach: Begin Again; Classroom Volunteer and Room Mom: SPS; PTG Member: SPS; Cub Committee Chair: Boys Scouts of America; Youth Basketball and Volleyball Coach: SYSA; Volunteer: Younglives; 18 years in global church organization as President of Young Women’s Organization (ages 11-18); President of Primary Organization for 7 congregations (ages 18mos-11); Life Skills and Resiliency Committee; Courageous Parenting Workshops. I currently teach a daily high school religion class.
From the Spokesman-Review today! Let’s go!!
I am in the thick of parenting like most of you! We are busy. We are concerned. Together we can have a voice. I believe that the best way to continue to take care of my family and other children is to be on the School Board advocating for their best interests. I will be bring that fresh perspective to the Spokane School Board. Three more days!
Just four more days to go! Ready, set … go drop those ballots in the mailbox!
Look Alive!! Just 5 more days!!
What is the district up to? Transparency on all levels keeps everything out in the open and creates understaning. This allows all to participate and see if their voices are being heard. Parents, teachers, and the community all like to see a clearer picture of the decisions coming out of the School Board. We want to know that efforts are being made to move our kids’ educations forward. We want to see the steps that are being taken, so we can discuss them and make sure the promises set are being carried out.
We all have a voice, but is it being heard? I have a unique viewpoint having 4 children in elementary, junior high, and high school in SPS, and one that graduated from Ferris High School in 2020.
I battled for my oldest child who has dyslexia. He fought hard for his education because he was dyslexic — working through tutors, teachers, counselors, and vice-principals. We deliberated in IEP meetings and adjusted 504 plans. I had to fight for this great kid. He often flew under the radar. He is very smart, but couldn’t always translate that in his homework. Just as I did for my own son, I will make sure you are getting the education you desire for your children.
I currently teach a daily religion class to high school students. I hear of their struggles and disappointments. I watch the weight of depression or the uncertainties of our country pull them down with feelings of hopelessness and helplessness. I see them wear compassion on their sleeves as they want all voices to be heard and want equality across the board — I hear them and I don’t want to be on the sidelines in discussions any longer. I will sound my voice in School Board meetings and make sure the students’ voices are validated. I will ensure that a plan is set in motion for their benefit.
Only 8 days to go! Get those ballots mailed! It’s time to make your voice heard!

A day on the fields! Taking courage from this girl! After not playing goalie for 1.5years, Maeli stepped up with courage. You see, the last time she played goalie, she took a ball to the face, it broke her glasses and cut her cheek! She was nervous. But she stepped up! She had some many saves, and a few misses. That’s how it goes. She reminded me I need to keep showing up, with saves and misses this election is going to take a lot! I need your votes, but you need my voice! Vote for Kata!!
It’s just been one of those nights! I am loving being in school full time, and all the extra curriculars, but are you wondering how we did it before the pandemic without exhaustion? There’s my calendar…But what about the things that come up that aren’t calendared? The pick up times, making dinner, swinging by the grocery store? It takes a village too! So grateful for carpools and the give and take with my crew!
Mandates… this word feels like it’s getting used often these days. I was just digging out my daughter’s backpack (it’s been a while apparently) I found this letter. Washington state mandates to learn about HIV/AIDS for 4th-6th graders. Updated 2021-22 curriculum. It is our responsibility as parents to do the research. The district allows us to view the Human Growth and Development Curriculum at anytime at the district office or at local schools. Group viewings will be held October 14th, 6-8pm Ferris HS. October 16th, 9-11am Shaw MS.
Love Books? I can’t wait for the Children’s Book Art Fair! I’ll be there doing some hand lettering! Come see, interact, eat and play! I’ll be doing some hand-lettering!

Let’s try to get to the bottom of what will be happening to the South Hill dog park, as the school district plans to build Carla Peperzak Middle School, expected to open for the 2023-2024 school year.
I’ll keep you updated because I love taking Maple to the South Hill dog park! We go at least 3 times a week! This isn’t a normal dog park- it’s wooded, natural, lots of trees and shade with a great open area for playing fetch with a crowd! You feel like you’ve taken your dog for a hike. There are perimeter trails and it just feels like being on a hike. The terrain is mostly flat and accomodates a lot of elderly and their pets as well!

Local dog owners unhappy with loss of South Hill dog park - KXLY SPOKANE, Wash. — The future home for South Hill middle schoolers is squeezing out a popular place for pets, and under current plans, the expansive 15 acre dog park would be shrunk down to a tenth of the size it is now. Pet owners are not happy with the plan. They say, for more than a decade, the p...

The Doorbelling Event was a HUGE success! A big thanks to everyone that came! The coolest moment for me was knocking on the door of an 18 year old girl ready to vote for the first time. She excitedly read my whole palm card back to me at the door with her parents standing with her. She asked me more in-depth questions and then said she knew who to exactly to vote for…. Kata Dean!
Tell your friends!

Signs are done and ready 🎉PM me if you’d like one for your yard!!!
Are you aware of the Equity Policy the current School Board is working on? Today in the School Board meeting they worked through the various paragraphs, made suggestions and edits. Stay up to speed on the changes. They remarked at the language being tough to understand.
