Happy Father’s Day to this “rad dad” (I can’t help myself I love the cheesy t shirts 😅) and to all the awesome dads out there. Whether it’s your 1st Father’s Day today or 18th, I hope you had an amazing day and felt loved 🩵🤍 and ps yes, I do adjust men 😅(I get that question about once per week lol)

We have some exciting news!

Welcome Dr. Christopher Brown! He will be joining our office on Thursdays starting in June! We are so excited for him to be a part of our Generations fam!

Dr. Brown was born and raised in South Carolina where he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in biology; as well as where he received his Doctorate of Chiropractic degree from Sherman College of Chiropractic. During his time at Sherman College he saw more patients than any other student in the school’s history, as well as receiving the Clinical Excellence Award only bestowed to one graduate who exemplifies the chiropractic triune of science, art and philosophy.

Through education and practice Dr. Brown has had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of patients from whole families, infants, special needs, and professional athletes. He has learned the importance of innate chiropractic care and living a dis-ease free life for optimal function in all phases of life. As a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, he has further earned his Webster Certification and understanding of perinatal patient’s needs while under care. He has a strong desire to impact his community and help them understand health from a foundational level that can echo through their family for generations.

Dr. Brown and his wife Dr. Kayla, who specializes in pediatric chiropractic, relocated to Idaho in 2023. In his free time, Dr. Brown enjoys spending time with his family, woodworking, scuba diving, riding his motorcycle, hiking, and exploring and learning about the beautiful area of the Pacific North West.

I’ve worked close to the veil in my life and career. This week has been a reminder of that. Thursday was 4 years since my first loss baby, Saturday was 10 years since I lost my grandmother, and this morning was a decade long reunion of my grandparents as my grandpa passed that veil. I got the news early this morning, after just FaceTiming him New Year’s Eve. Today I got dressed, went to work, and saw many precious little babies. The dichotomy of new life and new loss is overpowering at times. Tonight is one of those times. Tears wash over my face as I go about the mundane washing of pumping parts and bottles. Life is so precious and so fleeting. My daughter said it best “It’s hard losing someone.” It is, baby, it is. I miss my grandpa and after a day of holding it together, I am so sad. So, if anyone else is in need of a good cry tonight, join me…and send any prayers my way. 🤍 This is my favorite photograph of my grandpa; I’ve shared it in the past for Veterans Day.

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours 🧡💛🤎 I am so grateful for each person who has joined or supported this dream of mine in any way. Generations Chiropractic has really become such a family over these few years: moms supporting moms with milk, supplies, meals, advice, comforting or tending to little ones in the waiting area so mom can take 20 mins to herself. It’s a growing community that I’ve dreamed of and it’s just getting better!

Reminder we ARE open tomorrow 🎃

10/24/2023

Oof I’ve been putting this post off. This month we recognize , something so painfully close to my heart. In the last few years I’ve lost 2 babies during pregnancy and our long awaited nephew on his first day of life. Heart broken is an understatement 💔 It’s a pain you can’t fully comprehend until you experience it and is no more comforting knowing the statistics of how frequently it occurs. I’ve hugged mommas in my practice as they process their loss(es) and a piece of me breaks each time. It’s not lost on me how blessed I am to have 2 healthy children. I’ll always miss the ones I didn’t get to know and continually pray for the parents who are still suffering the deepest sorrow of loss. This month, and always, I recognize that pain, mourning, and longing. If you would, share the names of your angel babies below, so we can remember them with love. They are real. They are missed. They are loved. 🤍🖤

A few days late to social media, but 4 years ago I got to witness this sweet baby’s journey earthside. I was racing there after a full clinic day and getting caught behind an accident, thinking I would miss his arrival. Mom had been at a 9 for some time as sister was texting me updates while I drove. I got there in plenty of time as midwives moved mom from position to position trying to get baby through. I was able to adjust and support momma, making sure baby had as much room as possible to come through. To date, he is still the youngest baby I’ve ever adjusted at just 19 minutes old due to some shoulder dystocia. I usually like to check babes during or after that golden hour on mom or dad’s chest, but this time mom and midwives wanted him checked right away. What a privilege to be in this space 🥰 happy (belated) birthday to this babe + momma🎉

🌈August 22nd is National Rainbow Baby Day🌈
Today we celebrate the blessing that is our precious babies we longed for, suffered for, endured for, survived for. We also honor the journey and loss that that preceded our rainbow babies. Rainbow babies do not replace our angel babies. This week is the “would have been” due date for my first loss baby. Instead, it is the week I opened the doors of Generations Chiropractic, a different kind of baby than I was planning to have 3 years ago. Today I get to bring this sweet rainbow boy to work with me, a reminder of hope and the joy that is waiting. If you are still waiting, you are seen, loved, and prayed for. 🤍🌈

My heart is heavy with all these fires displacing so many people and devastating destruction. I want to help in any small way I can. I’m offering a service day at my office for any past or existing Generations Chiropractic families who are displaced right now: sleeping on floors or couches etc, packing their kiddos and animals to flee in the night, stressing about their safety, belongings, and homes. I know what it’s like to leave with only the clothes on my back and my family next to me, never to see my belongs again. While “stuff” is replaceable, it’s still a trauma that stays with you. I’d like to lift those burdens for a moment and care for you. Please reach out if you’d like a complimentary adjustment this Thursday, I’m blocking 3:00-5:00 for our displaced families right now. Thursday also marks 3 years since opening the doors of Generations. I can’t think of a better way to “celebrate” our birthday than serving those we care so much about during their time of need. 🤍 please share with or tag those you think may be in need.

✨Sully’s story✨
It took me nearly 3 years to consider a second baby. I was hesitant for 1 reason only: breastfeeding. It was a stressful journey with my daughter filled with so many tears and so much guilt and shame. (See last post) When I hesitantly decided to try for baby #2, we lost our baby early on. I dedicated the next year plus to preconception work and lost that baby as well. I spent another year recovering from that loss and conceived our rainbow baby exactly a year to date from our angel baby. I knew I wanted to breastfeed my son and had set the goal out to provide even just half of his needs on my own. I knew I had to prepare for this because it was no easy goal for me. To my great shock and surprise I’ve been able to provide for all of his needs. I’m so grateful to have had a different experience this time around and would like to share that with anyone in need of advice or simply encouragement. There are some things I did that may seem extreme to some, but I knew for me I had to do everything within my power to prepare in order to “forgive myself” for what I could not control. I recall my dear doula telling me something to the effect of these measures were a sign of trying to control a process or having a lot of anxiety, etc. I can’t remember the wording, but for me, it really felt like the opposite. I knew if I gave everything I could to this experience that meant so much to me, then it would be enough in the end and I could stop punishing myself for not being “enough” for my daughter and release me from the anxiety and the need to control the uncontrollable. [Now I want to emphasize to anyone reading that moms that don’t breastfeed, couldn’t breastfeed, or even choose not to are not failures in the slightest bit. This was 100% me working my own ish out👌🏼and is for anyone that can relate] So, after some babbling, these are things I did differently that changed my experience with breastfeeding.
•I reviewed what went wrong with my first experience
•I took courses on tethered oral tissues & completed a postdoctoral certification in pediatric chiropractic (not applicable to everyone, but makes a huge difference in my story)
•I supported breast tissue growth in first & third trimester with different supplements
•I met with an awesome TOT & IGT savvy IBCLC while pregnant to make a game plan! ( shout out to Kelsey @ )
•I got fitted for flanges for pumping
•I thanked my angel babies for any increased glandular tissue their pregnancies gave me to feed this baby
•I bought a hospital grade pump
•I bought any supplies I thought I might need and didn’t want to have the delay of a few days ordering them to inhibit progress ie SNS, syringes, proper sized flanges and backups
•I purchased the course for earning my IBCLC (again not applicable to everyone, but knowledge I wanted to have)
•I planned out an actual maternity leave
•I talked extensively with my birth team about third stage management to prevent and combat the effects of hemorrhage (@ Miri & are saints for supporting to me through a lot of indecisiveness)
•hand expression & colostrum harvesting the last month or so of pregnancy
•I started additional herbal support immediately postpartum to assist in milk production and depletion recovery
•I met with lactation specialists early postpartum to monitor weight, milk transfer, and assess oral function
•I adjusted my baby from birth on and did bodywork and exercises to prepare for a release
•I released TOTs as early as possible with a TOT savvy pediatric dentist via laser (as early as baby is PREPARED for a proper release)
•I did proper stretching, bodywork, and rehab following release
•I fed my baby on demand and pumped every 2 hours around the clock until my supply was well established (night time milk removal is VITAL)
•I set short term, attainable goals
•I accepted my pump output as normal & recognized my baby may feed more frequently as a result which was still normal
•I recognized when my supply regulated & was educated in the signs so I didn’t fall into the supplement trap when your breasts “feel empty”
•I accepted help from others and allowed my primary responsibility to be healing and breastfeeding.
•I stayed home as much as possible early on and ate healing foods and drank broth, teas, and so much coconut water- nourishing myself so I could nourish my baby
•I went back to work gradually & made a plan for pumping & nursing throughout the work day (I realize this is not as accessible for everyone depending on their career)
•I may be forgetting something so may add as I go 😊

What stood out to you most in this list? Is there anything that made a big difference in your “success” with breastfeeding? Let’s make a comprehensive list for anyone hoping for a better breastfeeding journey. 🤍 My list is not for everyone, but they were all factors in changing my story. I’m hopeful for other mommas that have had a traumatic experience with breastfeeding wanting to try again.

Photos from Generations Chiropractic's post 08/03/2023

As part of World Breastfeeding Week, I want to highlight my breastfeeding journey with my daughter. Fair warning, it’s not the blissful experience you want to hear about, but it was the greatest lesson I could learn and a driving passion behind my work to this day. Six and a half years ago I birthed a beautiful baby girl. It was a fast, intimate, beautiful home birth, but I did hemorrhage after and she broke her clavicle in the speed of things. This was just the beginning of our breastfeeding challenges. She was a sweet, sleepy newborn, sleeping 6 hour stretches (🤯). I did as everyone told me “sleep when baby sleeps.” Upon asking if I should be pumping, my birth team at the time said “if you want to, you can replace one feed with pumping or squeeze it in between feeds,” so I did. I had a hand me down pump with the traditional flanges that came with it. The latch felt like a piranha! She left purple hickies all over my breast, cue ni**le shield introduction. I had a pediatric chiropractor come to the house and work on her at 2 days old; this confirmed the broken clavicle and helped with the tension in her cranium and body. PJ had a posterior tongue tie contributing to the equation here, but I didn’t want to cut my baby so I held off on a release. I saw 2 different lactation consultants, 1 from my birth team the other was the pediatrician. Per my midwife, I started taking herbs to build glandular tissue and support my own healing after depletion. I had some success with this, but was far from meeting her needs, cue donor milk. This began a long, stressful journey of constantly seeking breastmilk donors for my baby, a blessing, but a reminder of what I was “failing at”. Upon visiting the pediatrician/IBCLC we rented a hospital grade pump and I pumped every 2-3 hours for over a year to provide enough stimulation to keep producing any milk. We continued to rent this pump for a year. At 8 weeks, I finally caved on releasing her tongue tie out of desperation; we both cried.

When speaking to the pediatrician/IBCLC after her scissor-snip release I said “my midwife said I may have some stretches or exercises to do afterwards” to which she replied “research doesn’t really show any differences with stretching”. Which now I know is utter rubbish because the mouth is highly vascularized, cue reattachment. Complicate all of this by the stress of being in clinicals and finishing grad school and by what I now know to be markers of insufficient glandular tissue (IGT).

It was a long heartbreaking journey that truthfully scarred me. With all this being said, I was able to nurse my daughter for nearly a year and a half until she weened, all while she remained donor reliant, receiving milk from dozens of mothers throughout her first 2 years of life. While she got minimal nutrition from me, it was not without benefit. She was able to nurse for comfort, improve her oral development, and create a nursing relationship bond. Our journey sadly looks like the start of many dyads I’ve seen over the years and graciously been able to steer in a better direction. Education and preparation go so, so far in this journey. I felt like I was grasping at anything to help my baby, but it was often too little too late. I’m here to support families through this time and help them thrive in this critical period when intervention and support are desperately needed. ✨ Follow for my next post to see how I made preparations and changes for a better breastfeeding journey with my son.

✨World breast-feeding week✨
Milk From the breast, the bottle, a syringe, G-tube, or SNS
Milk that is donated
Milk that is received
Milk that is expressed following a loss
Milk that is prayed for
Milk that is cried over
Milk that is pumped
Milk that is spilled
The absence of milk
The abundance of milk
Milk that heals
Milk that hurts
Who knew that milk could matter SO MUCH?!
We celebrate it all this week. I’ve experienced much of this list personally. I’ve supported families through all of these things over the last 6 years. It’s been the greatest labor of love in my motherhood journey and my career 🤍

Happy Easter from this sleepy bunny 🐰💤

2 years ago this little rainbow onsie shared the coming of our Arlo baby, who would soon pass. This year our sweet rainbow boy is wearing it. So thankful for a day we celebrate the resurrection of Christ and look forward to a time we will be reunited with those we’ve lost.

We’ve got a roller!
So proud of this sweet boy rolling from his back to his belly. It can be tough letting them figure out all those little transitional movements that lead to those bigger milestones, but the struggle and play build neural connections, training brain and body. Letting kiddos have naked time or diaper time on the floor offers even more feedback for them to use when mapping out their movements. We look at not only the timing of those milestones, but the ORDER, and the way in which they achieve those ie HOW they roll over, move to sitting, get into standing/walking.
When did your kiddos start rolling over? Comment below. If your little one is struggling with milestones or you want to be preventative in protecting transitional movements and milestones, come get your little one assessed.

✨Little daily miracles - big life changes✨
Every day I get to see little miracles, small shifts that add up to big things later in life. So, I wanted to share a couple just from today because these things bring me so much joy and maybe they relate to you or your kiddos.
Today I saw an almost 3 year old for her second visit. Mom reported after her first adjustment she had 3 consecutive days of 2 daily bowel movements after years of gut issues resulting in a**l fissures (poor babe 😢). Mom also reported for the first time in her life, she was sleeping through the night every night without waking and was sleeping an hour longer in the mornings.
Another kiddo today, not quite a year old and had began pulling up on things and trying to take steps. We worked on freeing up her pelvis and being able to squat to stand rather than relying on her upper body to pull her up. Since her last adjustment, she has been able to play in a squatted position, move from a squat to standing on her own, and take independent steps. This is huge! In my experience, kids don’t need us to teach them how to walk, but rather aid their body to be able to squat. Good squatters tend to be good walkers in my practice 👍🏼 When we understand that movement builds the brain, we can understand how life changing this simple feat is.
And I’ll share one more from today, the sweetest little 4 month old struggling with reflux. Mom reports a strong family history of reflux including older sister struggling with reflux which didn’t seem to resolve with medication. Upon evaluation today, we discovered some oral motor deficits along with a lip tie. She has been transferring a lot of air with feeds which is likely the culprit of her reflux. So, with proper care we have hope to prevent the use of these medications with this babe and the potential side effects that accompany those.
These are just a few of my cases from one day. I feel so blessed that I get to be a part of these little mini miracles in the lives of my Generations families. I love what I do all thanks to you guys 💚 If you have someone you know that you feel could benefit from chiropractic care, tag them in a comment, share this post with them, or share your own chiropractic experience with a Google review that may help another family choose chiropractic care for their wellness.

Today is national breast-feeding in public day. How amazing is that? But also how deeply upsetting is it that we need to have a day like today to normalize an already completely normal physiological experience?! Think about it, for as long as mammals have existed we have fed our young from our bodies. While formula, bottles, and other modern creations are at times life saving interventions(🙏🏻), we can trace life back to the b**b pretty darn far. So what’s all the fuss about? Breastfeeding is FINALLY protected legally, but there is still so much stigma and negativity around feeding in public. We’ve been convinced to hide! Under blankets, in bathrooms 🤢, in the car with a steering wheel jammed up your baby’s back… I have zero memories seeing breastfeeding babies growing up. We’ve been convinced it’s gross, shameful, sexual, immodest, or attention-seeking. These are lies. It’s a necessity, a gift, trajectory changing, and at times bloody DIFFICULT! This labor of love should be celebrated, supported, encouraged. There are a variety of reasons we can’t breastfeed and extremely valid reasons moms may openly choose not to. Great! Nothing, but love for every single one of those moms and babes. So can we give that same love to the mom running late that needs to stop and feed her babe, to the new mom who is already struggling to get a latch without someone dropping a blanket on their baby’s head. So how can we help? We can feed our babies publicly to a level of modesty we are individually comfortable with; nurse in front of our children; give positive and encouraging feedback to nursing mommas you come across. This is a community “issue” not a “woman’s problem” or . Nurturing our families has always been a community effort, that’s why the cliches say “it takes a village” or “find your tribe” 🤍 So carry on momma, we’ve got your back 😘
