Transitions
Working to end poverty and homelessness for women and children in Spokane.
'From chaos to calm' is their tagline and that's exactly what did for our Women's Hearth program. It's a complex space with complex needs that Katie and her team took the time to understand and create special systems for. They provided trauma-informed service delivery with their seamless collaborative nature. We can't say enough about this crew and what a difference they made in revitalizing such an important space to Transitions and the women we serve.

Last month, our Resident Support Coordinator, Cassie, began facilitating activities for youth at our Transitional Living Center. She led kids' games and art activities and hosts summer events for Spokane Public Schools HEART program which provides lunch, games, art, summer journals, and more for TLC's kids!
The YMCA of the Inland Northwest is partnering with Transitions to provide low-cost, group memberships so Cassie has been able to take the kids there as well! They've also been able to participate in the free lunch program through Spokane Public Schools, followed by outdoor playtime at two local parks. Next week, they're scheduled to attend a Rockin' Reptiles presentation at The Hive: A Spokane Public Library! Thanks to Cassie and all our partners, these kids are living their best summer life!
Providing bus passes to those experiencing poverty and homelessness is crucial in facilitating their access to essential services, employment opportunities, and social support networks. In Spokane, obtaining bus passes for participants in social services programs can be particularly challenging due to limited availability and funding constraints. This makes the generosity of organizations like Molina Healthcare immensely valuable. Transitions is deeply grateful to Molina Healthcare for their financial support, which enables the purchase of bus passes for our participants, significantly enhancing their ability to navigate the city and improve their overall quality of life.

Last week we were invited to speak at the North Pacific Baptist Convention at Morning Star Baptist Church. Adding to our warm welcome, members thoughtfully brought toiletries, winter coats, and more for the women and children of Transitions. And they topped it off by coming together with a monetary donation of over $1,000. We are beyond grateful to have such a vast community of support. Thank you for the kind and thoughtful gesture, Morning Star Baptist Church!
We want to give a giant 'Thank you!' to Water Lawn & Tree Care for treating our grounds at our TLC, Miryam's House, and Educare programs. Our lawns wouldn't have survived these past few weeks without you!

"We started doing it as a group because we saw a need, not just for unhoused people, but everyone out in the heat. Some of the volunteers need relief from their own apartments. This year the need seems greater due to the temperatures so we will meet that need as long as possible. Even during the winter, we try to meet the needs of unhoused folk." -Sampson
We're beaming with pride over our New Leaf alum, Sampson. He has been teaming up with CoolSpokane which mobilizes during any stretch two days or longer when the high temperature reaches 90 degrees Fahrenheit. They stage cooling stations where volunteers distribute water, sandwiches, and electrolyte packages to anyone who walks by. Huge thanks to Sampson and CoolSpokane for nourishing our community!

Spokane County’s Housing and Community Development Department is initiating a series of community stakeholder meetings to assist with shaping funding priorities for the next 5 years. Interested citizens and service providers are invited to attend one of five meeting options hosted throughout Spokane County between July and October. Priorities will be used to shape funding allocations over the next 5-year period to support programming for individuals and households earning less than 80% area median income. Each meeting will seek feedback on the following areas: Affordable Housing, Community Development, and Homeless Services.
Please see the flyer above for information on our first meeting in this series, and visit our website to view and sign up for notifications on the meetings to follow.
