Our Animal Cruelty Task Force is on their way back from rescuing 36 Chihuahuas from a hoarder's property in Franklin County.

These 36 pups were found roaming free on the property and are very fearful of human interaction. Our ACT patiently spent hours safely rescuing each Chihuahua and they are now on their way to our shelter where they will receive emergency veterinary care.

We are beyond grateful to the concerned citizen who made the call to notify the ACT and undoubtedly saved their lives.

This rescue was conducted less than 24 hours from when we welcomed 36 dogs from a transport that we shared with you yesterday.

With such a large influx of dogs we will need all of your support while we provide them the care that they need!

We are getting ready to welcome 36 new pups from the National Mill Dog Rescue today!

These sweet faces are not quite ready for adoption just yet, but they will be looking for their forever homes soon! They will be available at both of our shelter locations! (St. Louis City and Maryland Heights)

There is a wide range of ages and breeds so keep an eye on our adoptable pets page if you're interested in providing a loving forever home to a new friend!

Illy made her TV debut on KSDK News this morning with Michelle Li and she was an absolute star! 🌟

Illy came to HSMO back in July with a very broken back leg. Despite that this sweet pup was constantly wagging her tail and giving kisses 🥰

Our amazing veterinary team recommended an amputation of that rear limb.

Despite all of that Illy is the sweetest, most attentive puppy with truly awesome ears!

Now it's time for Illy to find her forever home!

Beautiful Chickadee recently celebrated her first ! 🐱💗

"She turned 10 years old in March but is as active as a teenager cat hopping, running up and down the stairs, and racing through her home," her mom says. "She loves chasing the laser beam, finding new hiding/napping spots, and always reminding us when it’s her mealtime."

Our buddy Peter Pan needs a hero 💞

This darling 3-year-old lab came to us in January as a part of our big 97-lab rescue in Phelps County. He was adopted in early February and came back to our care at the end of July — at nearly double the weight he was when he left 🥺

Peter Pan would love a family that can help him maintain an active lifestyle so he can be happy and healthy for many years to come! He prefers a quieter household with older kids (we're recommending 16+ years old). This sweet-natured pup has so much love to give and is hoping someone gives him a chance soon. Zebulon is ready for a staycation this Labor Day weekend 💤

This adorable 7-month-old Pittie mix is all cuddled up with his toys, but if his forever family showed up that would be even better!

Zebulon is a sweet pup who came to HSMO as a stray in July. While he's waited here he has been spending lots of time with our behavior team! He's learning how to be the perfect pup for his forever family 💕

Ready to kick off the holiday weekend with some warm fuzzies? Poppy recently celebrated her first !

"We knew immediately when we walked by her cage and she sat and put her paw up on the glass to meet my dad’s hand that she was the one. We said she was the one we wanted and never looked back. We took her immediately on her first walk in Tower Grove Park, and the rest is history!"

In her forever home, Poppy enjoys going to the park every day and chasing squirrels. She enjoys occasional treats from Ted Drewes and loves chewing on her Benebone, her mom says.

"Poppy is extremely loved, and she brings joy to our lives every day. We can’t imagine our lives without her, and we’re extremely grateful to HSMO for rescuing and allowing her to find her way into our lives!"

Aida was feeling a little shy this morning on KSDK News with Michelle Li, but we know her future is bright! 🌞

This former breeder mama came to us earlier this month and is ready to find her forever home. She's still figuring out what the world looks like outside of raising puppies and would love a sweet, patient family that can show her the good things in life.

Illy was brought to us by our Animal Cruelty Task Force. She arrived with a badly broken leg, but despite the pain she was extremely loving and wanted to greet all of us 💕

We knew she deserved a chance at a wonderful life and our veterinarians decided she would need that leg amputated.

At only 6 months old Illy is still full of life and love!

Best news ever: Gabriel found his forever home!! 🎉

Gabriel came to HSMO along with 21 other hounds from Gasconade county in May. He waited for months for his forever person to find him, but we knew that the longer he waited the better that family would be!

Hank celebrated his first Gotcha Day recently and his forever family shared the sweetest photos of him through the first year with us!

"From the moment we met him we knew he was for us. Hank is very much apart of our family and well loved as you can see. He is very smart and laid back at the same time. He loves to play and chew. It is hard to believe he is only a year old. We love him very much and look forward to many more years with him."

Otis is a 2-year-old Pittie mix and he's dressed in his best with his big white chest and white tipped toes 🤵

Otis has lived with young children and other dogs and done well with both! He's the perfect family pet 💕

We have an adorable pup to introduce you to today, world meet Percy!

Percy arrived at HSMO in early June. When he arrived at HSMO he was extremely nervous and shy. He needed some time to let his personality shine outside of a kennel 💕

We found the perfect foster home to bring out all of his potential...with a member of our very own Behavior Team!!

Here's what his foster mom has to say about Percy:

"Percy is a sweet and fun pup! He can be shy when meeting new people, but he warms up quickly. He loves other dogs and cats and he has also been good with ducks, chickens, horses, and ferrets. Percy has done well with calm kids over 11, but younger children can overwhelm him.

Percy is playful with dogs, but not certain how to play with people yet. He loves to watch TV on the couch and cuddle. His favorite activity is walking, but he also loves car rides! I have taken him on hikes and on long walks around Creve Coeur Lake, Forest Park and Chubb Trail with his foster friends.

Percy would love a family with other pets to help bring out his adorable personality."
