Ministry of Presence
Probably the most important aspect of the chaplains' time with the children is what we call โthe ministry of presenceโ. Our chaplains walk the halls; visit the units; play cards, board games, or video games; or watch TV with the youth. The non-anxious presence of our chaplains reassures the teens that their spiritual well-being is being looked after.

A big thank you to everyone at Transfiguration Episcopal Church in Lake St. Louis who provided a great birthday party for the kids at the St. Louis County Detention Center! Birthday parties help create lasting, positive memories for the kids and remind them that they are NOT forgotten.
Last week, the ECM board had the opportunity to tour the St. Louis City Juvenile Detention Center to learn more about what life is like for the kids there, what their challenges are, and how we can help them. Highlighted here, board members got to see the center's skill building room, library, and hair salon, where Bishop Johnson demonstrated his skills as a barber!

Congratulations to ECM board member and volunteer Dr. Pam Stanfield on her recent award for distinguished service in the St. Louis County Juvenile Detention Center. Pam received the Donald F. Roth Outstanding Service Award in recognition of her years of dedication and service to the children in the detention center.
For 9 years, Pam has volunteered in the detention center, where she visits the children every Sunday and on holidays. Pam serves the children by listening to them talk about their struggles and offering stories to inspire and motivate them. Pam regularly attends special programs and events for the youth and has served on Family Court committees focused on serving youth who are involved with the juvenile justice system.

They are excited to be a part of ECM's work and look forward to supporting its programs and events.
