Well-intentioned people can disagree. But skilled, experienced mediators can help both sides find common ground and start on the road to reaching a mutually agreeable resolution.

Just as we don’t always succeed on our first attempt, the same applies to mediations. Certainly, not every dispute is resolved in the first mediation, but with commitment, attention to detail and follow up, we can almost always reach an equitable resolution.

What is in a name?

KIM KERN, no wait its spelled Curran or is it KIRN?

What is in a name? In the words of Shakespeare, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." Does a name really matter? Juliet tells Romeo it does not matter that he carries the name "Montague” and his family is her family's rival. Much like Juliet, I do not get wrapped up in names. Perhaps it is because most women take their husband’s name at marriage (I kept my maiden name even thought my husband’s name is probably easier to spell!). Maybe it is because as a 21st century American we leap at the chance to assume pseudonyms on Instagram and Tik Tok.

My name has been misspelled and mis-pronounced my whole life and it really does not matter to me. I am just happy to be part of the conversation. Don’t sweat the name. Do your best to pronounce unusual names. Ask for help. Let the person know it is hard for you; maybe they can give you a tip for pronunciation.

In my mediations, I make an effort to spell and pronounce everyone’s name correctly. But if I or others make a mistake, don’t sweat it. You are still just as sweet.
