Congratulations to the Department of Physical Therapy! It was awarded a Healthy Children 2017 grant by Kaiser Permanente's Community Benefit Grant Program. Over the past seven years, this grant has supported what has become a signature community service learning opportunity for the department's Healthy Children program. Through the Healthy Children program, Pacific's doctor of physical therapy (DPT) students go "Beyond Our Gates" to serve approximately 3,000 school-age children each year who are at elevated risk for childhood obesity. DPT students provide evidence-based physical education, nutrition and ergonomic activities and information to afterschool programs. Through this experience they gain a practical appreciation for how to care for our community's health. The Healthy Children grant also underwrites the DPT White Coat Ceremony, during which the incoming Class of 2020 will be inducted to the program's culture of service-oriented professionalism. The Department of Physical Therapy looks forward to continuing their partnerships with Kaiser Permanente, San Joaquin County Office of Education and Stockton Unified School District to continue this successful program.
